...in the blind yesterday with my boys...8 and 9 yrs old....it was just b4 dark...our blind sits back off of a power line...there is a forestry road that crosses the power line that has a ton of tracks...i have been putting corn out along the forestry road and on the deer trails leading to and from this funnel...

a doe walked dang near on top of my blind...she was literally 10 ft off to my left walking the treeline and almost passed right in front of me...where she stopped i could see her but one of boys whispered to me and she heard it...she stomped...snorted...and then bounded off to the other side of the power line through tall grass..

she stopped again but didn't pause long enough for me to take a shot...

i don't think she SAW us but only HEARD us and got spooked....

I know she is traveling this trail frequently due to the amount of tracks and the fact that my corn is always gone...

how long should I wait to hunt that spot again?...

TIA

if that's not the only deer you have traveling the area, as soon as you want.

i think so too...just wanted some opinions form some of the gurus here...correction though...she was off to my right...if she had walked up to the left of my blind she would be dead right now...

Hard to say. Really depends upon what he said.

True.

If he said something like, "That's a nice one." then she's just playing hard to get and was probably just wanting you to chase her.

If he said "Shoot her!" then you might not see her again.

I've had a doe blow and then killed a rack later that same hunt. I'd hunt it if you feel its a good spot.

If she was that close and didn't move until something was said she didn't smell you. Sounds to me like she was also unsure about hearing you. If she definitely heard you at 10 feet she would have took off. Hunt her up.

My experience is if they stomp and snort, they don't know what you are. If she had just took off, then she knew you were danger and you might not see her for awhile.

She caught a whiff of something she didn't like.

Yep. If she didn't flag and haul arse she'll be back there the next day.

Sometimes even a deer's life isn't worth living.

She made it. I killed one of her cousins after that shot. Those must have been the best water oak akerns in all the land.

This.

This should've been a hunting "life lesson" for both boys on how important it can be to NOT speak!
