Are there restaurants that offer $50 gift certs for $25 that aren't new or about to go under?

Typically places that can get $50 for a $50 meal don't have to offer it to you for $25.

Some restaurants use that marketing idea to get people in the restaurant who normally wouldn't spend the money. Basically they are trying to expand their clientele.

Katies has popped up a few times on Groupon. Mr. John's too.
Neither are about to go under.

I'm a fan of both of those and would buy a groupon for either.

It's expensive arse marketing, and that's the bottom line. A restaurant that offers half off will only actually see 55% of the $$$ collected, which is already HALF off.

$5.50 on a $20 food purchase ain't buyin the owner a new lexus. New, old, established, a lot of different restaurants do it. If a restaurant in financial trouble does this, it's either a hail mary or a nail in the coffin.

Agree but I must admit the majority are random crappy places. I've gotten a few good ones.. Gino's, mama dellas, etc.
But it's often random industriaplex places and stuff like that.
