He put Boise on the map and then crashed and burned at CO...

Why did he fail at CO and would you hire him?

Colorado was going to crash regardless of who the coach was

Pretty much this. Colorado's situation is...complicated.

Hawkins works for ESPN now. He calls games on ESPNU.

He did good work at Boise, but the way they have continued to be good (and in fact have gotten better), most people have concluded that Petersen did the legwork.

I would say a smaller school might find it worthwhile to take a chance on Hawkins. He had some issues outside of the problems systemic to Colorado, but it's hard to assess how hamstrung he was.

Bill Walsh could be the HC at CU with Tom Landry as his DC and Vince Lombardi as the OC and they wouldn't sniff .500. The school has an almost total lack of support for the program.

Colorado was a renegade program back in the 90's and early 2000's. remember stripper gate??? they cheated and got some pretty decent players.

They are in huge debt, they are still paying Hawkins his buyout money, zero support by alums, zero commitment to the athletic department.

I agree with this. Maybe a team like UTEP.

Yeah, they used to win. Was kind of wondering why they couldn't win with Hawkins.

I think it would be that Petersen was really the biggest reason for success at Boise St. They were good when Hawkins was there. They are BCS (bowl not champion) contenders without Hawkins.

Hawkins has been mentioned at UTEP. They've also mentioned another Boise coach, Koetter.
