Why are Lousiana's beer/wine shipping laws so dumb?

I've taken a real liking to the Marilyn Wines collection , but it is neither sold in, nor can it be shipped to Louisiana. Had to have some friends bring me in a few bottles from Texas recently.
We all know that beer selection is very limited.
What gives? Is it the evangelical thumpers with a tight grip on the state alcohol boards? Or is it the distributors not allowing competition? Or both?
These $12-30 bottles will be worth hundreds in 10 years. And plus, the bottles are awesome.

Limited production, Wine collectors, Marilyn Monroe collectors.
To purchase 1 of every vintage of "Marilyn Merlot" from 1985-2008 will run you about $14,000.
eta: Oh, and from what I understand, the wine itself is rather tasty.

So what law is keeping you from having it shipped here?
I only ask because I haven't found any alcohol that I haven't had shipped to me.

Don't know. Just know that it can't be shipped to Louisiana. I think it has to do with the fact that the winery does not have a "relationship" with a current Louisiana distributor.
That means it can't be shipped direct. Maybe it's just the winery, maybe I can try the big online retailers. once again...

I just googled it, and it seems that all they have to do is get a direct ship permit. That might cost too much though.

I just found a website that would ship them here. They were vintages though but would still ship.
Have you talked to a specialty store in town like Marcello's, Martins, Etc, or did you just assume that if you haven't seen it it must not be here.

The Marilyn merlot is pretty good. The Norma jean is the cheap stuff. It used to be available through a distributor here and may still be. If there is a distributor, a winery of their size may choose not to purchase a shipping license for direct customers bc of the cost. I had access to it when I was at churchills. Just ask your retailer for wine locally and see what they come up with. And yes it can be "worth" a significant amount if money due to cross interest collecting but as a wine drinker I would personally spend that amount of cash on something else.

A liqour store can't have things shipped in. They have to go through a distributor. It's the system of alcohol distribution that was put in place once prohibition was repealed in order to keep tighter reigns on alcohol distribution.

That's what I was saying. Someone here use to sell it distributor wise. Not sure who has it now, but I was brought a proposal on it within the past year for prerelease on the Marilyn merlot and declined for the restaurant. However, I did remember churchills picking up some at that point in time. Always worth a shot at checking there.

I got a bottle from Calandro's in 2006/7 or so. Have not seen it since. Every time I find myself in a wine store/grocery store I look for it.
I don't care enough about it to harass wine store owners/managers about it.
All I really want to do is bitch about it because I can't buy it here.
This is the bottle I bought at Calandro's for about $10, it sells for $45 now. It just so happens to be the least attractive of the Norma Jeane variety:
