It sure hasn't stopped LSU fans from talking......even after UF made that arse quit

so you're forced to leave the NFL and go CFB for your trolling

I think anger, bargaining and acceptance are next in the process

Nope, this is a Brees/Brady/Unitas thread

The Bucs/Aints 2-4 thread is a couple posts down

I think you can definitely debate at what point it does become more impressive. I'll be honest, I can't say for sure at what point that happens. I do know the shape Unitas was in late in his career because you don't have the QB protection that you do now.

FWIW, I'm not saying Brees isn't impressive or breaking the record isn't impressive. Big difference in saying that and saying what I'm saying (that it may not be AS impressive).

Just based on the factors surrounding it such as the period he played in and the injuries he accomplished it through.

to play the "era game"....you have to acknowledge the LBers in Unitas era were like 205 lbs and ran 4.9 40's. The CBs were 5'9" Jewish dudes

Unitas would suck in todays NFL.

Would he? If we're going to acknowledge the strength of LBers in Unitas' era then you have to acknowledge the strength and conditioning today's QB receives as well. They are better prepared to handle the punishment, but the reality is they're pretty well protected so it negates that a bit IMO.

Does Unitas have to call own plays or does he get benefit of guys in press box talking to him until 5 seconds left on play clock?

I'm not going to compare eras...but the athletes playing in the NFL today are in a completely different stratosphere on all accounts. It is a significantly faster game with some of the most elite athletes in the world playing. Unitas would be in way over his head as would anyone who played decades ago.

Who's to say Unitas couldn't adapt in if he had played in this era from the get go? Or even been better? I saw him work with guys like Chris Redman at UofL and even at an old age had a good grasp on reads and etc. I think you're underestimating his talent.

Ironically, he was 6'1" and 194 lbs. About the same size as Brees give an inch and a couple pounds. I don't think it'd be unheard of to say he would be capable even today with the same training.

Nah. We're having a decent grown up discussion here. Unless that bothers you?
