that + 5 ACC schools.

geez, that could make for some really really bad years and possibly some good years depending on how they line up the ACC schools.

They need to realign the atlantic/coastal conferences to begin with. It's already real messed up.

I think B1G has nixed the nine game thing for now. If 8 games meant Michigan would get a better out of conference game, I would take it. But, I think Michigan is just going to schedule a patsy (I think that Pac 12 pact is dead for now). So, 4 games against the UMass/Central Mich. variety. The one good thing about a 9 game B1G is it makes things a bit more fair than 8. In 2013 and 2014, Sparty doesn't get OSU, Wiscy or PSU on the other side. PSU will suck, but that's a monster advantage to win the division.

Interesting quote from Brian Kelly, reminds me of the Rick Reilly article about placating ND and if the conferences really wanted to indirectly force them to choose a home, they could have done so but acquiesced because of ND's brand.

quote:

I think if we wanted to give up our independent status, we would have probably already done that. With the shifting conferences in realignment, that would have already occurred. Once we were granted access to the BCS Championship Series, once we were able to have free access based upon where we ranked and we didn't have to be tied into a bowl, it kind of set us in the direction that we ended up today. I think that decision, as to whether we would be in a conference or independent, occurred back in the summer when we had access to the national championship game.

Jon Miller, prez NBC Sports: "The Fighting Irish have always had one of the most compelling home schedules in college football and today's development only adds to that interest"

Just join a conference. ND is ridiculous.

I find it funny people only complain about ND, but not schools like BYU or Army. Especially BYU, since they just LEFT a conference to become an independent. ND's been an independent forever, it's part of its core identity. It'd be like telling LSU to go join the Pac 12 and not complain about it or telling Alabama not to play Auburn ever again and not complain about it.

I agree with this. Has nothing to do with the FACT that ND is really irrelevant in the GRAND scheme of things since then. Ratings wise they are great[NOT SURE WHY] BUT, I DIGRESS.The amount of quality football ND has put on the field the last 15 years is not that good at all. FACT. PROVE ME WRONG.

That's like saying...water is wet...PROVE ME WRONG!

ND has had decent to good teams since Holtz...but never elite since the late 80's/early 90's when Lou sold out...and got whatever players he wanted onto campus. Every ND fan knows the keys to becoming elite...you have to get dirty - depends if ND wants to go down that route again.

Serious question here: do all of the independents have the automatic BCS tie-in based on rank or is it just ND? That's the part that bothers me the most. If you're independednt you should all be treated the same

*not a knock on ND here if so (how could you?). I blame the BCS committee for this

I don't think anyone can rationally knock ND for what they do. I think almost every major program is extremely jealous of the system that ND has set themselves up to be in.

ETA I do think the BCS will eventually tell ND to F off and join a conference or they are losing the NCG tie-in.
