What should be my first purchase for 6 yr old son and me to play. Wii, xbox, or ps3 suggestions please

for you to play together, i'd say a wii. you might not get that much out of the game play, but he will...
and i assume thats your priority. there's alot of fun 2 player games yall can play, also a good number of games he can play by himself.

I'd get the Lego games (Batman, Star Wars, Indiana Jones) if you get a Wii. Fun 2 player and he can just run around and suck

Super Mario Galaxy has an awesome two-player mechanic that works really well, specifically made for playing with someone young or not good at video games.
Played it with my niece, she had never touched a game like that before and she did well.
