Ty Cobb, in 1911, in a 154-game season in which he played 146 games, led the AL in-

Runs-147
Hits-248
BA- .420
2B- 47
3B- 24
RBI- 127
TB-367
SLG- .621
SB- 83

Can anyone come up with a similiarly dominant season by another player?

I'm not trying to start anything, but how about the best individual season before the steroid era.

Babe Ruth... pick any of a few seasons, but 1921 comes to mind.

Led the league in Runs, HR, RBI, On-Base PCT, Slugging, Walks, Extra-base hits, Total bases, and all sorts of other metrics like OPS+, Runs Created, Batting Wins, etc...

Plus he was second in Doubles, third in Batting Average, fourth in triples, and sixth in stolen bases for good measure!

ETA: 177 Runs, 59 HR, 171 RBI, just in case you were wondering... in 152 games.

Let's confine ourselves to the numbers in the stat line, and leave out the 'metrics'.

Yeah, I added those in for fun.

Even beside that, Ruth in 1921 might have been the best individual season ever.

Anyway, if you want to discount Bonds then he's right, it's probably Ruth in '20 or '21, tossup.

edit: Nvm, I don't want to start an argument

Yeah... Bonds has the three single-best seasons as far as OPS+ is concerned... followed by Fred Dunlap in 1884.

So, throw out Bonds, and start with the 'modern era' and it's Babe Ruth in 1920, then Ruth in '21 and '23 tied.

Babe Ruth in '27 and '26 aren't far behind, with two Ted Williams seasons in between.

I'd go with 1921 just because his totals were so much better, even though he had a better OBP and SLG in 1920. It's hard to top 177/59/171! Plus 44 doubles, plus 44 Doubles, 16 triples, and 17 SB.

I have Cobb leading the league in 9 categories, NOT including OBP or HR/AB.
Since he batted .420 and had 44 walks, he may have led in OBP, too.
