Why not a free shot from the spot on the floor where you were fouled?

Having said that, I like the two free throws because I'm so used to it
This is basically the only reason everyone is so against the concept in the OP.

If it were always done that way and we were reading an article about changing it to two 1 point shots, we'd be screaming about how horrible that is as well.

If you are fouled shooting a 3 pt shot you should get an uncontested 3 pt shot worth 3 points, not a free throw worth 3 pts.

it'd be pretty interesting to get a free shot from the spot of the foul

One change I'd like see made to free throws is awarding assists on made attempts. I think it's ridiculous that a pass that normally would lead to an assist is basically forgotten if a foul occurs even if the fouled player makes his free throws. Without the original pass, the points gained from made free throws never occur. If a shooter goes 2/2 or 3/3 on his free throws, give the passer an assist.

That's the only way anyone will break Stockton's assist record.

Why won't these retards realize that if they want to speed up the game, quit having mandatory television timeouts, problem solved.

And watch the fat tv contacts disappear. Brilliant and realistic

One thing Nate Duncan mentioned is the fact that 2 FT give guys time to catch their breath. Could have unintended consequences for wear and tear, which is already a big deal.

Wouldn't bother me if they did it until the 4th. Then revert back. But if they do it that way, is it really worth it?

Honestly, just go back to 2 refs. Less fouls are called, ergo games have better flow and take less time

That's a terrible idea.

There's nothing wrong with the length of games, either.

Refs just need to be younger and more athletic. These old slow bums have no clue of the capabilities of today's NBA player. Game is just too fast so calls are easily missed

I like the reserve 1 & 1 idea. Make the first, you get awarded two point. Miss the first, and you get to attempt a second worth one point.

For multiple free throw attempts, start the clock at 10 seconds, and however many he can make in 10 seconds, that's how many he gets. 15 seconds for a 3.

The Shaq scoring a million points was in reference to this post:

I would think that much of the time is spent blowing the whistle, walking over to the scorers table to report the number, then getting everybody set-up at the free throw line. Not to mention, any delay because of complaining from the players and or coaches as well as substitutions when a player is in foul trouble. This downtime is less interesting than the actual free throw. Whether they shot one, two, or free throws, the other time consuming and boring parts aren't going away.
