The sheep generally do not like the sheepdog. He looks a lot like the wolf. He has fangs and the capacity for violence. The difference, though, is that the sheepdog must not, cannot and will not ever harm the sheep. Any sheepdog who intentionally harms the lowliest little lamb will be punished and removed. The world cannot work any other way, at least not in a representative democracy or a republic such as ours.
The sheepdog is really just a report filler outer.

agree ... and the sentence should be life, which is the least he'd probably get if he weren't such a lousy shot ...

So if he was raped, possibly tortured, etc, he would deserve that? For making a stupid mistake?
I bash cops on the reg, but the same mindset that leads people to say things like I quoted leads cops to act the way they do to the general public.

It could've just as easily gone the other way - dude could've had a pistol on his seat. Poor judgement either way - cop should've been next to the driver side door and asked him for his license.

So we're not supposed to criticize cops because it's only a few idiots who give them a bad name. But cops can feel negativity towards the general public because of some outspoken citizens who think a moron like this deserves hard prison time?
And FWIW, no he doesn't deserve to be raped but if he got his arse kicked I wouldn't feel sorry for him. He shot an unarmed man because he had already made a baseless assumption that the unarmed man was a threat.

I criticize cops all the time. But I don't think we are going to make things better by positioning ourselves as their enemies. That just fuels the fire.

Tonight it was revealed on MSNBC, that Levar Jones was kept in handcuffs until midnight, until another trooper finally showed up at the hospital, informed him that he wasn't being charged with anything, and then took the handcuffs off. And some people wonder why Black folks are distrustful of the police.

Oh I'm sure this bunch here thinks there's nothing racial here at all.

I don't know enough about the cop to know if there is a racial component, and I think some hope to make it fit that narrative..Just looks like a poorly trained cop, who was scared(judging by his aim at point blank range), and just wasn't very professional in his control of the situation, or his reaction. Could there be a racial component is his fear, very possible, though. I just don't know much about intent watching that, other than stupidity...

To be fair, most of this board doesn't trust the police either, it's not just a black thing anymore.

I could see brpd doing this and trying to sweep it under the rug. I bet dash cam video would get lost if it happened on florida blvd.

That stop was handled horribly by that trooper but here are a few points for consideration I haven't seen mentioned. Police generally run license plates prior to making stops and that provides information on the owner, generally driver, of the vehicle. Perhaps the driver had a record of attempted murder, battery, or any number of other things. I don't know if that was te case or not but the article certainly vague. With that being stated he was in no way justified in shooting. I could see him drawing his weapon and ordering the man to show him his hands but the shooting was unjustified.

The guy should be grateful for dash cams or else the Cop would have been given the benefit of the doubt , as usual.
As a society, we should be giving the benefit of the doubt to a cop, as opposed to giving the benefit of the doubt to a criminal.
But I understand you have instances like this where the cop is just a freaking dumbass and the guy did nothing wrong. Did he think he saw a gun? I don't get why he shot him. I even understand if he just pulled his gun out, but the dude shot him.

Umm, no. First off, one is not a criminal until they are convicted of a crime.
Second of all, benefit of the doubt should be with the citizen, not with the individual(s) already given so much power and authority over others.

Amen! Also, I wouldn't call a seatbelt law violator a criminal.

I actually think this is a good thing.
The cop makes a mistake and immediately tries to help the poor guy out.
I think the cop should be reinstated because cops are people and people make mistakes.
I think the victim should get around two million and I bet he would be happy with that.
