People should be involved. No one should invest in what they don't understand. I've seen toooo many people piss away their retirements trying to "beat the market". fricking retards. But hey, they're smarter than me so I can piss off. I put my tax deferred savings into the market because that's my only real option for growth. Anything outside of that, I invest in my business or new businesses that I have 100% control of and know inside and out. I still educate myself on the market and investing and have a play fund that I dabble with. Basics of investing and economics should be REQUIRED in all schools.

People on a pension or disability are on fixed incomes too.

Your point is? They could have saved in addition to that. And just because the are on a fixed income, why the hell do they expect breaks not available to everyone? Can afford it? Don't buy it.

Aren't people on a salary or an hourly wage on fixed incomes too?

Isn't really your financial future what you make of it?

If you want more work more, or don't buy it. Applies to everyone young or old. But 'fixed income' should not be an excuse IMO.

Yes it is. Although a small minority are not physically or mentally able, most people are limited only by their own efforts and drive. Anybody can make excuses for their failures. Sure, some people have it easier than others. Bitching and whining while living a shite arse life is no way to even the score.

I'm now on fixed income. In some good months I used to earn at least double what I'd earn in a bad month. Now I know what's coming in each and every month...although it has never stopped me from spending more than that.

What does "fixed income" mean, or is it just a convenient excuse?

It means that the rate of change doesn't change. There is no possibility of making more money in the future than you are making now.

It really isn't that complicated.

You are wrong and too fricking stupid to understand if I explained it to you in little bitty words.

I'm on a fixed income. Some day you may be on a fixed income if you live long enough. You still won't understand because your dumb broke arse never saw it coming.

I just responded to the statement about social security--not all fixed income is social security.

But really, we're all glad you're awesome and doing great.

Not all of us "old" people sunny. I'm on a fixed income, but a very good chance my so called fixed income is much higher then your income. Hell, what I get in SS is more then what you earn per year. BUT, for me to get that, I been paying into SS from the age of 14 and I made bank many years and I will never get back what I paid into it.

Another dumb statement.

Guess Daddy is still paying your way thru life. Guess you don't have to pay for insurance or what it cost for out of pocket expense for meds. shite happens and one can pay thru the teeth for health care. That eats a lot of income quick. What I pay a month for health care would support a family of 4 per month and I do have medicare and a very good supplement insurance.

Young people think they know it all.

Extremely ignorant statement. Go learn what FICA is and then get back to us. Here is a little info to help you get a start, retired people (like myself) that are getting SS checks from the gov't ARE THE ONLY ONES THAT ACTUALLY PUT MONEY INTO THAT ACCOUNT! I am drawing what I paid while I was working. That is MY money I'm getting, a-hole.

I planned for my retirement. I don't need that piddlin arse little monthly check .... or their damned forced medicare either. But you can believe I'm going to accept that check BECAUSE IT'S MY MONEY, a-hole.

quote:

Federal Insurance Contributions Act (FICA) tax is a United States federal payroll (or employment) tax imposed on both employees and employers to fund Social Security and Medicare .....

I didn't ask to pay that shite for 40 years but you can bet your sweet arse I'm going to happily get a check out of it.

So get this right, I'm not sponging off of the gov't or taking one damn red cent you are putting into the system. I'm just getting back a little of what the forced me to pay in .... EVEN WHEN THEY FORCED ME TO GO PLAY SOLDIER FOR 2 YEARS. $160 A FUQUEING MONTH and they took FICA out of my check.

AND SO, FAR ALL OF YOU BASTARDS THAT THINK I AM LIVING OFF THE GOV'T .... frick YOU AND THEM.
