Just to add to whats already been said I have a LCR .38+p. its in my front pocket most of the time in a pocket holster. Sometimes if Im in a shady area getting gas I have my hand in my pocket on the gun and no one knows.

But its not something Im taking to the range to shoot all day.

If you're thinking compact .38/.357, borrow a friend's or go to the range and rent one first. Go with whichever feels and shoots best for you.

I recently purchased the Smith & Wesson Bodyguard 380. I like it because I wear khakis daily for work and this fits perfectly in my pocket without being noticed or felt at all. It also has an external safety, which sets it apart in compact autos, IMO. I visit some nasty places for my job and this gun fits the bill for what I need during that time. It is not an ideal end all, be all concealed carry gun, but works well for my situation during work hours. Earlier this week, I found myself in Old Gentilly with my boss, an architect, and female developer walking into abandoned buildings she owned. Ideally, I would need a flame thrower or Taurus Judge for this scenario, but ultimately felt safe during the middle of the day knowing I was protected with my pocket pistol, should I need it.

Kahr CM9. Don't get the Solo. You can only shoot 147 grain bullets or it will jam. (From what I'm told) And it's like $800, bought my Kahr for $350.

Thanks for all the good info. I did some research on those n82 holsters and they look great for carry. Never knew they existed. Based on that info I will probably go with the m&p 380 or the 9mm shield. Will try to find a few to shoot first.

You have to literally practice with the N82 holster. It locks and you have to twist it.

TigerOnTheHill will awesome advice as always.

So after deciding if you should carry IWB or pocket, this ultimately seems to be your decision in what pistol you will be buying.

Or you could get a Kahr CM9 and a Kahr CW380 and get two inexpensive, quality pistols. I have shot my Kahr a whole bunch (probably 2-3 thousand rounds) and love that it is one of the smallest 9mms you can buy. It isn't the funnest range gun due to its size, but it goes bang every time that trigger is pulled.

Here are some of my reviews you might enjoy. Personally, I think the Kahr CW380 is the best pocket 380 on the market, and it costs about $350. That, in my opinion, is an amazing deal for an awesome pistol.

Kahr P380(CW380) - Ideal Pocket Carry
True Pocket Pistols - (Compares the CM9 to the P380 in terms of size)
Kahr CM9 Update - Still Kickin'
And if you're looking at double stack 9mms:
Ruger SR9c vs. M&P 9c

I'll throw in a Gen3 Glock 26. There are slimmer, lighter options but it's a gun you can actually spend some serious range time with without beating your hands up. Lots of aftermarket support and you can run any double stack 9mm mag Glock makes in them. Put about 200rds through mine today and with good sights and practice you can plink White Flyers on the 25 yard berm.

I carry a Shield 9mm. Great gun, especially for the money.

There is no best CC gun, there is a best fit for you personally though.

My progression from beginning with my first to last.
Colt Agent

Colt New Agent

XD 45c

Now I rotate between the following base on clothing, time of year, etc.:
M&P 9c

MC Operator

LC9

BUG P32

Point here is, there is no best, just many many choices.

Smith and wesson model 10 with a 2 inch barrel is my every day carry. Get a new or used j or k frame smith and wesson or a ruger lcr and you'll be fine

If you want a small light semi auto get a smith and wesson shield 9mm I wouldn't get a .380. There are too many small 9mm options out there to limit yourself to the puny, weak, anemic .380 For a revolver ( ) get something chambered in .357. Even if you want to carry .38's, .357s generally have a little more weight to them and are easier to shoot. The option is there to stuff magnums in it if you so choose. The ruger sp101 would be my choice, but it will be substantially heavier than other small revolvers. It will also be much easier to shoot. Smith and wesson air weights are great if you practice enough to use them well. The recoil is nasty, but they do shoot well in the hands of someone who can hang on. The ruger LCR .357 is a fantastic little revolver and I'm not sure why anybody would buy an air weight smith anymore. The ruger has a better trigger and the option for magnums if you can handle it.

^^ Excellent advice here. ^^

Quite possibly the best advantage of pocket carry, especially front pocket carry: one can prepare for a possible draw w/o alerting anyone that one has a handgun.

You don't have to be a "big guy" in order to make IWB carry work. Again, the main thing is a quality, well designed holster and a good belt; at least for me, i find a single stack gun much easier to comfortably cc than I do a double stack gun. You'll also learn to dress around your gun. If you carry IWB, the waist of your pants will need to be 1-2" bigger than usia.

I guess the question I should ask first is how should I carry?
That's a good question, but its one only YOU can answer. You're prob not going to carry the same way every time. I started out carrying IWB and always tucked. Now I carry mostly IWB and tucked every now and then. I've learned to be more comfortable wearing my shirts untucked. During the summer I frequently pocket carry the PF9 in cargo shorts; the PF9 will fit in the pockets of most, but not all, slacks as well. I pocket carry the 380 when clothing gives me no other options. The rest of the time, I'll be carrying the CW45 or a 1911 IWB, +/- tucked.

As far as holsters, I prefer traditional leather, although the hybrids are very popular. My CW45 is carried in a "Clip Tuck" holster from Side Guard. I ike it a lot.

A small carry gun is a compromise.

Small guns are hard to shoot. Small powerful guns are especially hard to shoot. A .357 out of a snub nose will blind you at night from the muzzle blast and the cylinder gap blast. A +p .38 is exciting enough.

A friend of mine just got this last week and it feels GREAT in my hands. I really like the fit in my waist band too.

N82 Tactical holsters are awesome. You can get a tuckable one and it won't show at all. In my opnion, they make the best holster for the money.

I have one of these and it is hard to make it fit for me. I don't wear baggy clothing for work (slim slacks and a tucked in shirt) and you can see the outline of my P238. IWB carrying for someone who is in shape and wears fitted clothing is kinda hard to do

I would suggest buying pant size 1 larger than normal if you want to IWB carry. The P238 makes my normal pants extremely tight since they are already slim to begin with

I see you have an LC9 in your pic. I'm seriously thinking of selling or trading mine.

I changed the trigger bar, trigger, spring, guide rod and deleted the mag safety. Works well now, lol.
