I don't know, I've never been in that situation, but studies have shown that most people will conform to the majority.

it has nothing to do with having a weak mind. it's human nature to want your feelings or beliefs validated. sharing the same feelings as a group of people instantly validates them.

you realize this hive mind is the exact same thing you cry about when a bunch of people downvote you, right? it doesn't matter what the situation is, people will conform to the group, not the individual.

So I guess you really are that weak-minded.

You're right about the group-think dynamics.

There are no absolutes, however, and the intelligent and educated class typically rise above this nonsense because they understand validating such actions leads to societal strife.

The problem is that the world is full of uneducated and ignorant people that are just taking up space in the herd.

humans easily submit to 2 things: (1) the group and (2) perceived authority

when you combine the 2, you get the holocaust and stalin's russia

on a lesser note, you see this well with motorcycle gangs. they heavily identify with the group and follow group actions (or face expulsion from the group). also there is a set hierarchy of the group that must be followed, EVEN WITH a hazing period prior to being allowed in the group

it's the same reason you ride around on your scooter with a bunch of other weekend warriors. you aren't comfortable enough with your own beliefs so you surround yourself with others who share those beliefs so that you feel validated.

it's basic human psychology.

Can't stand for someone to have a different opinion can you.

Look, I'm sorry but this is different from the normal "herd mentality" that can take over when groups bully someone. This is on a whole different level of fricked up. At some point a person who has a moral foundation that says" this is wrong and way over the line" will stop and not take part in something so barbaric as to actually egg on someone contemplating suicide.

And yes, if you cannot see how it's possible for someone to resist the urge to join in the mob, then it is indeed true that you're too weak-minded to grasp the concept of how someone could take such a course of action on their own.

Garth, does your MC use extra help from people not in the gang for running guns and heroin? I saw it on SOA on Tuesday and I don't want to spoil the episode or anything but it just made me think if your MC uses mercenaries. Also, nomads. Have you ever been a nomad? I think that if I ever became a biker I would want to be a nomad so I can come and go as I please. What are the disadvantages of being a nomad?

I have no sympathy for the girl who killed herself after her boyfriend didn't show up for her birthday. That bitch was crazy and her dying probably did society a favor.

It's also why you see homeless with great acts of heroism. By being do much different, they tend to not fall prey to deindividualization.
