Nope.
Standard isn't going anywhere. You can't just "switch to metric"

Conceptually, no issue.
Practically, here is a list of a few things off the top of my head that would need to be "converted"..
Every dial on every manual machine tool as well as every mechanical indicator, caliper & standard.
Every pipe, fitting, flange, nut & bolt.
Every road sign that indicates distance as well as every printed map.
Every mechanical instrument that measures pressure, temperature, weight or speed.
Every program in every device that formats any information in imperial units.
And so on, and so on.
It isn't going to happen.
This reasoning was why it was supposed to be a 20-30 year phase in which is plenty of time.
When I was a kid in the 70s, no one had metric tools, then my dad bought a Datsun and he had to get a new set of sockets. Now who doesn't have both standard and metric wrenches?
In woodworking, metric is 100x easier especially when calculating offsets. Imagine trying to calculate the offset using a 57/64" bushing with a 9/16" bit in your head.

Yes.
The metric system is far more intuitive.

Industrial and scientific instrumentation has for some time been designed for a world market, it would be rare to find something that is not usable in imperial or metric systems by just selecting the appropriate system in a setup menu.

I say we keep learning both and make ourselves smarter.

My first car at 15 was a white Datsun kingcab. Right before the name change.
