They dont. But if you can fool enough dumb white people into thinking they do you can get their money!

Issue transferable, but not refundable tax credits to all African Americans. 20 year expiration date on them. Hell, make them provide a birth certificate. It wouldn't cost the US government a cent. Only people who would pay would do so voluntarily by buying tax credits and in return they get a reduction in their tax burden. Win-win for everyone, right?

How would you determine if their ancestors were slaves? Or is that an issue in your plan? Would a black who immigrated here twenty years ago be eligible?

shite, and here I was thinking it was dumb that UL-Lafayette had Chris Williams on their payroll. But come to find out, the leading state-funded Higher Ed institution in Louisiana has YOU on their payroll? You and Bob Mann. Holy geez.

Interesting. It seems that 100% of this board acknowledges that tax credits cost the rest of us money.

If they don't cost us money then why do they care? Why would you be opposed to helping people if it doesn't cost you a dime?

Put some critical thinking into it, if you can get beyond your initial knee-jerk reaction.

Doesn't sound like a dog that would hunt politically, but logically speaking it would be better than wasting it bombing and then rebuilding the middle east.

Certainly does if the person or entity receiving the credits aren't paying income taxes in the first place, or are paying less in income taxes than what the credits give out. Such is the case with some of the Child Tax Credit recipients, as well a good portion of the state's film subsidy program (oops!).

I'm all about reducing tax burden but I find reparations to be incredibly stupid. A tax credit would encourage people to actually earn money though.

How about issue a tax credit of $2500 to everyone who earns their high school diploma and stays out of jail? Maybe throw their parents $3500?

We should use this to get something that benefits society. My government uses taxation to influence behavior....might as well use tax credits to do the same.

Many of these companies get more in tax credits than they would ever owe in taxes. That's the whole point of making them transferable!!

The point is that according to this board, as long as the government doesn't have to write a check, tax credits don't cost money. Only liberals oppose tax credits. Right?

I'm not sure that they do on an individual basis. But it has certainly affected the wealth of the group.
