So what does that mean when you still line up in jumbo formation and run up the middle in those situations? An occasional audible would be nice, just sayin'.

do we really need to call an audible. Everyone already knows their is going to be 10 in the box before we even get out of the huddle. Just call the audible in the huddle. just sayin.

I'll emphasize this for you. Our OLine has not dominated the trenches -- be that due to execution, 8 in the box, coaching, or scheme and talent of the defenders -- but early in each of our games our O line has NOT been dominant... and when the quality of the opponents goes UP, there is the POTENTIAL for our success to go down in running the ball.

As for running against a loaded box --- did you happen to see any of the Arkansas vs. Texas Tech game --- seems like AR figured out how to run the ball without any problem. Now, the TT D is not known as a good D -- but surely they are as good or better than our last 2 opponents>?

What you are also missing is that when they have 8-9 in the box, we also have 9-10 offensive players on the line or in the backfield, which is plenty of players to block with. I'm not ready to give up on our Oline, but they have yet to really play well either.

A lot of our sets are I-Tight with 1 WR(a corner is covering). So the team has 10 in the box vs our 10. The QB is not a blocker. The RB getting the football is not a blocker.. 10-2=8.. We have 8 blockers vs 10 defenders. And for the most part they know the ball is coming up the middle.

We ran all over team with 8-9 in the box.

Sorry they were staking the bock last year when Hill was running all over A&M. And they were stacking the box at Auburn.

They are also missing blocks.

5 offensive linemen + 2 tight ends + 1 fullback= 8 players. Why not?

Advocate Article on O-Line "chemistry" problems
quote:

“Just better chemistry as a whole, among other things. Just getting chemistry,” Alexander said. “I think that’s one of the big things.”

Porter says this is an issue of "chemistry"? Their not-so-veteran play has me almost missing Stud now...

That's probably why they keep running to right to get the right side work, because the left is on point. Then I think it all depends on who's running,Kenny looks like he gets positive yards.

And the fb made a block and lf ran untouched. Hmms seems like teams still can't stop us.

You are right; you cannot account for everyone against a 9 or 10 man front. You can attempt to prevent by using formations that require the defense to spread out. I will say this; I still see too many missed assignments covering inside gaps on pass protection. I hate to say that this could be attributed to a lack of ability to think quickly by our lineman. QB's, OL, and DB's have to have the ability to recognize defenses and make quick adjustments sometimes on the fly. I do not know if our kids can do that.

Arkansas looked pretty good at tech running against 8 and 9 boxes.

if we put all our guys in the box, don't you expect the opponent to do the same? If they didn't put anybody in the box, we'd still have too many people in the way.

O-line has been MIA far too much for a much ballyhooed bunch. Thus far the oversell has been impressive. They lay an egg against MSU and it will be a very long season indeed.

Good point White Tiger, the sad deal is that the blockers are the most veteran bunch on our team, and most of them played fairly well last year.

Nobody wants to say this because we all assumed we found a great upgrade, but is it Grimes? I don't know if this is correct but what gives.

My wife is a Hokie so I watch many of their games. Last year their OL was crap, but I assumed talent was missing, and it was his first year.

It is strange NotRight 37. There is not a great deal to understand with run blocking itself. However, there have been numerous missed assignments which could be a reflection of the scheme e.g. Grimes. These guys know how to run block so I am puzzled as well.

Pass blocking is a different kettle of fish and depends much more, probably, on quickness and, again, recognizing blitzes. I recall the last time CLM proclaimed the O-line the best he had ever had it turned out to be useless as a broke-dick dog. To this point I am very concerned that the O-line will sink this ship and allow a middling D-line to be over exposed. Just my opinion.

I should add the the RBs (read LF) have had "trouble" locating the holes. This is critical. The RBs have to trust that the O-line will produce holes and must develop the vision and feel for the game to find them in a timely manner.

That's why I'm really excited about Brumfield and Clapp. They're both plenty big, but they still have great pad level.

That's great. When do they start playing?
