Even if prevents even greater harm? Someone posted earlier that they spanked their child for repeatedly running into the street. They were wrong? I guess getting ran over is much better than a butt whipping? What a crazy messed up world we live in.
Let's not pretend that spanking is only way to discipline, especially considering that there are much better methods (plenty of research to support this too) for the vast majority of situations.

Nice semantics. He wasn't whipped, he was slapped with a tiny branch.
Wasn't going after semantics, sorry you feel i was. I used the word slaps because that is exactly was happens when a thinner branch can flex and whip forward at a faster rate than the had is actually moving so it's kind of a slapping forward when it contacts the object.

Reports are that he disciplined this child more than others.
Some kids act up more than others...how old are you? And some kids with single parents are worse. They are able to run over one parent and have issues when supervised by the stricter parent.

Do rock solid Christians have multiple children from multiple mothers out of wedlock?
At points in their lives, yes...it's called sin, And it covers more than just pre-marital sex. You should read a little and read also how a person can become closer to God and be a better man.
quote:
Does this include the child who he never met until he died?
You should read up on the details..inform yourself.
I don't pass judgment on AP for this. He may well have gone too far, even in his own eyes. WE ALL HAVE AT SOME POINTS IN OUR LIVES!
I have 4 kids, they all are different. I can control one with a glance and basically bring her to tears without one word or movement.
I have other that respond to verbal. I do have one that requires a physical notification that he is on thin ice.

It's not the fact that the kid had welps and blood that bothered me, it's the sheer amount of welps and location that shows he crossed the line for me.
I agree with the amount. I do not know if there were multiple spankings/issues etc...
I never said he wasn't at some fault. I said a thin switch will whip around fast and cause more of a cutting that a "blow" that a thicker one would.
quote:
"The next time your kid tells you to shut up or throws a wild tantrum fit, you need to sit his arse down and explain that the next time he does it, you will spank him, and he will not like it. And then once he inevitably does it, you'd better back up what you said, and then afterwards, explain to him that you want him to be a good person and that his behavior is unacceptable."
Funny how smart arse kids with attitudes are typically never spanked.

I brought you into this world and I can take you out
That was one of Daddy's all-time favorites.
Personally, I've never used that one ... mainly because my kids probably aren't old enough to understand it yet.

These grow EVERYWHERE on the place I hunt in Sumpter County Alabama. They also produce the balls (we call them mock oranges) which no animal will eat.
The thorns are horrible. They have punctured my 12 ply tractor tires before I had them foam filled.
The wood lasts longer than cedar or pressure treated lumber. There are fence posts on our property that are over 50 years old and still in use.
Wood is extremely hard and bright gold in color. We burn it sometimes and it will get hotter than hickory,

That was me with my child. I tried time out & loss of privileges, the 2 most effective disciplining methods in our house at that time. He needed to learn not to run into the street and he needed to learn quickly. He thought it was funny to test me and he chose the street as one testing ground. The 3rd time, he nearly got hit and caused a minor accident. Yes, I spanked him. I didn't have time to try additional parenting methods on top of what we'd already tried. The next time he could have died.
I may be in the minority here, but I believe striking your child with anything other than the palm of your hand is going overboard. You can control the force and placement of your hand.
AP confirmed this point when he stated he didn't realize the branch was wrapping around his kid's legs and hitting him in the testicles. No shite, AP, you had no control over the instrument you used to punish your child.

Don't fool yourself ... they squiggle and squirm.
I know this from being on both sides of the equation.
I noticed that my wife has had to resort to the time-tested wooden spoon on the 9 year old ... I asked why and she said she was hurting her hand too much.

I learned this lesson years ago. If you spank a lab with the palm of your hand really hard you are going to break a bone in your hand.

AP went overboard, a few slaps on the rear end is fine, and a good practice of disciplining your children. To whip a kid with a tree branch on the rear end, the legs, and the crouch repeatedly is way to far. Two doctors thought it was child abuse.
Plus this a 4 year old kid, not a pre teen or something.

I'm sure we both use a variety of methods to try and produce solid, productive citizens.

and your punishment will not be effective.
not true at-least with dogs.
We use to have a Golden Retriever. and with most young dogs they are pretty undisciplined. One day our dog was being a bad dog and my Mom took a comb and threw it at her, hit her square between the eyes. Sure that isn't a spanking, but every time the dog would see it from than on she would immediately stop acting bad. Spanking can be effective, sometimes it isn't effective.

you can spank your child, you just aren't allowed to whip your child.
yes and I do believe AP crossed the line.

its lazy parenting IMHO. fricking with a kids mind is way more effective, and a whipping hurts for a few minutes but doing things like taking away phones, or access to TV, makes the pain linger.
Spanking a child is a good way to install respect when they are younger because it will scare them. As they get older they get the little tough boy syndrome where they will choose a spanking in which case you spank em then ground. Spanking for punishment and grounding for being a smartass, atleast that is what my problem was.

You do support the Obama administration and the Democrat party, do you not?
Has "accountability" been a big theme and backed up by concrete actions?
