It's worked before, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

there has to be some psychological condition for the perception of a highly successful person being considered a buffoon by many people.

It was the number Hanagriff threw out so I was quoting his number. FTR, from '09 - '13 we were 53-13.

Year Wins Losses
09 9 4 (UF, Bama, OM, PSU)
10 11 2 (AU, Arky)
11 13 1 (Bama)
12 10 3 (UF, Bama, Clem)
13 10 3 (UGA, Bama, OM)
53 13
Pct 0.803030303

i totally agree. I can't understand it at all. the guy is highly successful in every way measurable and yet a portion of lsu fans think he's completely stupid

a) Les was right to adjust course after '08.
The course wasn't actually adjusted until 2010(relying >60% or more on the run), if said course pertains to run/pass ratio ghosts.
Under Miles, LSU won 77% prior to 2010, and 83% since.
LSU's best W/L% season came during it's most run heavy R/P ratio under Miles.

Uh, we won the SEC in 2011 with this strategy, and we were one drive away from at least winning our division in 2012. I think Les is doing just fine.

admittedly the most mysterious aspect to his tenure at lsu

Are you kidding? Of course Miles had a game plan for the BCSCG - it was the same game plan he used for the SECCG, and the same game plan he used for the win at Bama.

The problem is NOT that he didn't have a game plan, the problem was he didn't have a different game plan. But then again, he didn't really have the personnel for a different game plan.

[inb4 "Put in Leeeeeeeee!!!11!", that's not a game plan.}

hopefully the offense gets rolling

I take it you dont believe that they have? I guess I am just the opposite. I saw them start to click and gel in the second half of the Wisconsin game, and then work on fundamentals and the run game- while letting our young QB pass for some long yardage when it was there for the taking. I havent seen anything from the offense that worries me, its the run defense that has me worried. If we can figure out how to stop the power rush, no one in the SEC can touch LSU this year.

Les never really had a choice after 2008. Its not like he had an above average QB on the roster for the next 3 years. Except for Jefferson's flashes towards the end of 2010 (a good example is the A&M bowl game)and Lee's efficiency in 2011, LSU didn't have a quarterback with enough talent to base a game plan on. Not to mention Les will ALWAYS be a run first team.

If Jennings could play as well as Mett in '13, Flynn in '07 and Russell in '06, I doubt we'd see such a boring offense.

Five seasons have come and gone since '08 of which only one can we say our O was good.

No, not really. I can say our O was good in '11, at least. I'm sure you can spout a bunch of numbers that you used to convince yourself that our offense was horrible so you could cope with all the winning and SEC West and SEC Championships and blowing out teams like Oregon, Georgia and West Virginia, but I don't care about those numbers. I care about the numbers that end up on the scoreboard, and those said we had a good offense.

Apparently, you're just pissed because Les isn't doing it "your way". I'm fine with Les' way.

I think it has everything to do with confidence in a QB...no confidence, no wide open attack...after '08, CLM was skeered of JL, inserted JJ, and he couldn't even throw it ot the other team, much less our receivers, so LSU's offense went back in its shell...Now, we have two inexperienced QB's and he is bringing them along slowly, and the rant is going nuts and dreaming up all kinds of excuses and conspiracy theories of what CLM and CCC are trying to do...GET OVER IT and enjoy the season...

I dont think the average fan knows how hard it is to win an sec title. Just think. The best coach in college football (saban) with the most talent in college football ( #1 recruiting class every year) LOSES TO A LESS TALENTED TEAM EVERY YEAR.

Nah only Les does that. He also has more talent than everyone, despite the fact that he can't even recruit La. AMIRITE?

If only we could try that thing that other colleges do, like you know, recruiting a good qb. Are we the only top 15 school that routinely struggles to find a qb? How does Auburn turn a disgraced defensive back into a SEC winning qb? How does Florida St replace a top NFL draft pick with a Heisman trophy winner? How does Texas A&M replace a Heisman trophy winner with a player passing for more yards and more tds?

Actually, I don't believe the above. I think we have had capable qb's on our roster, we just choose to hide from them and run basic passing routes only when it gets to 3rd and long. We make a pretty good qb look bad.

That Georgia win had absolutely 0 to do with our offense in '11.

Jordan Jefferson was the starting QB for most of 2009 through 2011.

Mettenberger wasn't that great in 2012.

In 2013, the offense wasn't conservative. This was the first year in that time frame that we had a great QB and a good offensive coordinator.

This year, our two options are a sophomore that saw very limited action last year and true freshman. They both have talent and potential, but sorry, neither is Jameis Winston. It's gonna pay to be more conservative this year than last year.

There is no such thing as ghosts. Our offense is designed year in and year out to play to strengths of the players that we have out on the field.
