What are marital relics.

And, seems pretty presumptuous to assume their idea of "marriage" has any relation to modern marriage.

Did you not read the Old Testament? You think I can walk to my neighbor and offer 25 goats for his youngest daughter? Or perhaps only 15 for the older, but more plain one.

Uh, marriage has existed in every culture, forever, continuously, since before the beginning of history. It seems beyond asinine to say it doesn't.

Won't happen, that would require a backbone and integrity. Tuba has neither.

And these ad what exactly?

which doesn't mean that it is in any way related to what modern marriage is. Quite simply, women were sold. They were a piece of propery. They didn't choose who they married. And polygamy was quite common.

Let's look at the story of Jacob. He toiled seven years so he could marry Rachel. Laban then substituted Leah. Jacob gets to marry Rachel by committing to seven more years of work. Is this marriage somehow relevant to today?

Perhaps modern married women should get their own house since beena was typical of early middle eastern marriages.

Or perhaps we should adopt the practices of Old Testament Jews which had no rules imposing fidelity on the husband but death for adulterous wives.

Different human cultures advanced independently with divergent cultures and marital norms. This system you describe is nowhere near universal to the ancient world. Who and where and when are you talking about exactly?

I get that you don't like the Bible. I don't get what that has to do with anything I've said.

Western culture is derived from the practices I've noted. Areyou denying basic history of arranged marriages? You deny dowries? You have provided nothing to link modern marriage to practices of ancient times. Heck, early Christians didn't even perform a religious ceremony for marriage.

You obviously either don't know about or are pretending that same sex marriage never existed. But we know it did for native Americans of North America. We know a same sex union existed in Ancient Greece and Rome. In china.

We know it was common enough that Christians had to make laws against it, Theodosian Code. 342 AD.

I'll start answering your questions when you provide the artifacts that indicate marriage before history. I'm curious how you know how early homosapiens acted. Are there ancient cave paintings indicating marriage?

Btw, I don't dislike the bible. You really are terrible at deductions.

Why isn't it being put up to a vote in every state? Why are independent judges enacting it?

I'm denying that this was ever created by a legal, codified system.

Marriage existed before "Moses" and the Jews started to regulate it. You are actually the Old Testament Biblical ones, attempting to change an already established cultural institution through laws and power.

Your examples of marriage being dynamic, yet universal prove my point. Marriage should be what the people want, not what the powers-that-be dictate.

Homophobia. Pretty simple really. Surely you aren't suggesting that because it is not legal it must be bad for society?

Ok. You've labeled the culture that doesn't agree with you "homophobic"? I could go on forever about how wrong this is, but I'll accept it for the sake of argument. Is it your intention to change the law against the will of the homophobic culture?

I have a keen interest in North American Indian culture. I must say I had never heard about gay marriage among North American Indians. Do you have any links to some references on this subject? I'd love to read them.

Homophobia is a fear. Fears are rooted in ignorance. Ignorance can be changed through experience...advanced as you called it.
If it isn't homophobia then what is it? Just so much loyalty to traditional marriage? Like skinheads don't hate blacks and jews, they just love whites too much!
