Just stay in the hammocks. Get a bigger tarp for cover and enjoy camping.

Dream hammock is my go to. But I had my mom sew up some ripstop nylon and I use that one when bugs aren't an issue. I also have a War Bonnet that is very nice just not as long as my dream hammock.

Good tarps make the setup. Got one that has doors that close up to keep wind and rain out.

just 2 people me and the old lady. would be nice to be able to store other stuff inside too though. looking a truck tents like this one. anyone have experience with these. I like the idea of being off the ground.

i had a cool setup in my F250. Camper shell top with a $100 tent thingy that straps on back. made a platform to store stuff under bed. memory foam mattress. very comfy. big arse fan w/ deep cycle batter/inverter.

as far as big tents, paha que makes good stuff. have a big screenroom by them. solid.

Thanks Everyone for the input.

Gonna go with this one.

Its a pop up that will fill in the bed of my truck.

Nice setup found one for a decent price. Lightweight and all aluminum.

Just make sure you don't have to drive your truck anywhere after you set it up - sounds dumb but trust me it happens....

pretty sweet. cheaper and easier than a topper if you don't need one otherwise.

the one thing i really liked about the topper setup is we could "stealth" camp like gypsies.

didn't do it a lot but came in handy a few times--e.g. in a dentist parking lot in Highlands NC after a trip to the emergency room for stitches and the many beers that followed. I once pulled into an undeveloped area of Cape San Blas and slept undetected because got in too late to get a spot in the state park.

but you'll enjoy that set up if you take care of the "canvas." i like being off the ground too. Even backpacking, it's hammock or neoair. can't wait for this heat and humidity to break so i can enjoy camping on the beach and appalachians!

I second the Weathermaster II, have used it a few times. It's stayed dry for most of the trips but hdoes get a tad wet in 20 to 25 mph gusts of wind and rain on a hill just off the water at Indian Pass. I'd still recommend it.

what if you want to pop a tent where your truck can't go?

We coat the hell out of it with camp dry and bring another tarp for a wind break if needed.

We did too and it held up very well/stayed dry through a couple of strong storms. The main issue was that we were in sandy soil and didn't/couldn't stake it well enough to hold when the ground got so saturated so it was partly my fault.

20-25mph winds are loads of fun on and in a tent.
