they shouldn't be. It is well known that academia, and I use that term very loosely, is filled with leftist/liberals/progressives.

I sort of agree with this, but I just have to advise you that, based on my experience in the classroom, 6th graders are not ready for that complex discussion.

Good point - that would leave them rather vulnerable in a "what the teacher says is gospel" kind of way and allow her (you know this is a chick, right?) to further indoctrinate their little minds

I'm not in the current climate, but just didn't think it was real, like some Onion piece. If thats real, parents should demand termination of teacher, and everyone involved...

Here is something else that shouldn't surprise you...

They won't. At all. This is a DC public school. If you don't think this is common there, you are kidding yourself.

As for the "this is one teacher" comment earlier...

Hardly. There are examples of crap like this brought up almost daily now. Hence the reason I'm no longer surprised.

I don't like being that cynical, but yes, I do think that would be the end-result of something like that with 6th graders. They just don't have the knowledge base, experience, and off-hand references to make that conversation worthwhile.

Yea, I think they could have found some other person of power who abused said power that wasn't a mass murderer. I'm sure there are a few out there...

that teacher should never be allowed to teach again. That is total abuse of your power.

I am not. I see this type of thinking pretty often from some young (and hard headed) teachers. This teacher should be suspended for 1 year and undergo some "training" before being allowed to teach again. I wouldn't recommend firing or a permanent ban, because people do grow up (most of the time).

I'm sorry.

My history is a bit off.

I thought Hitler used an attack on German soil as a justification to go to war against people who had nothing to do with said attack. Is that not true?

Now imagine the genacide comparisons of the Million that died in Rwanda under Clinton that he could have prevented, or the Christian slaughters caused by Obama pulling out American forces, or all the innocent kids Obama has droned. Imagine a 6th grader comparing these to other tragedies, or mass murderers..If I'm a parent in that District, it would get Ugly.

EZE asked the relevant question. Is anybody really surprised?

The left-wing loons co-opted our educational system many, many moons ago.

it's a dumb assignment. It's obviously politically motivated. The teacher should be punished. 6th grade isn't the place for that kind of stuff imo

Yes, your history is way off.

Any 6th grader could point out the flaws in your summation of the cause of Germany's war effort.

You should read more. WW2 and it's politics are a very interesting topic. I'm disappointed that you are so ignorant of the entire subject.

Disappointed.

Equally ridiculous assertions.

Being in Camden though, i am sure you know a few teachers that you would guess are probably trying to teach using similar methods. And I am sure it goes the other way at times as well.

And people argue against nationally standardized curriculum and tests?
