I'd feel better if more people took this part more seriously:
"against all enemies, foreign and domestic"
So Help Me God.
As far as the AF goes .. .well, LOL, SMH. All you can do with that bunch.

Interesting, so if all soldiers had to praise Allah, you'd be cool with it?
Of course not, he and the rest of the Christians in here would be having a collective aneurysm.

The words were made part of both the enlistment and re-enlistment process by Federal statute effective for all oaths taken on or after October 5, 1963.
You would think that God would spite the countries that put his name on currency and force people to worship him.

Maybe he takes oaths seriously and doesn't want to cheapen it by swearing to a deity he doesn't believe in. Some of you people suck.

Well, by all means, let's keep speculating.

Question, because I dont know
If he is atheist and doesnt believe in a god, then why would he be concerned saying so help me God if he doesnt believe it?

I'd greatly enjoy making your acquaintance ... So Help Me God, of course.

Everyone knows that if an atheist says "So help me God" they turn into a pumpkin at midnight.
This requirement is illegal and unconstitutional, of course.

But he's only lying to himself about those words not the rest

However, if a person in the Army swears to protect his country and then walks off of base one day to go hang with militants in the mountains, I guess he wouldn't be held to that oath either. I guess he could say that he was told he really didn't have to believe in the words he was saying...

It has to do with religious freedom. Some of the first large waves of immigrants came here to escape religious persecution. A public institution shouldn't be forcing people to swear oaths to what they believe is about as real as Santa Claus. It's not anymore right than forcing Christians to swear an oath to Shiva.

Yeah, but I get your point and I agree that it's wrong to try to force him to say it. I think it's clearly unconstitutional.
It's just fun to watch atheists get pissed off because it really doesn't take much these days

Fwiw I find the whole oath swearing thing as odd.
If an enemy agent infiltrates your ranks, of course he would swear an oath just to blend in.

Also hilarious.
Bill O'Reilly makes it doubly so. That look of intense concern. "We've got a war on Christmas, arright? We need to secure our southern border, arright?"
