if the aggies fill up with Tx recruits then they won't be trying to come in and poach the talent in LA.

Would we not go after a TX five-star if they showed interest regardless of how many good players were in LA that year? aTm being THE team in TX is bad for us any way you slice it. Not saying it's the end of the world.

TAMU would benefit but so would LSU/OU/Baylor and any other school that recruits Texas heavily. The state is so big and ripe with talent their top 100 could probably fill all those university rosters just fine. TAMU can't get everyone they want there.

the more intriguing question is, what happens if sumlin goes to nfl after this year with ut being a mess. that would open the whole state up like never before.

I'm really not concerned with any other team, I don't think LSU is either some of you guys just don't get it!! LSU is probably one of the best if not the best at evaluating talent and getting them to perform at expected level or even higher. They also have a very strict system they recruit by. They normally have to see the guy play first hand bf accepting an offer. The 3 stars we do recruit are normally better than other schools bc the staff has done the home work on these guys. It's why Texas if full of talent but doesn't perform well. We don't just go after any five star we go after the five stars that have great potential. LSU is recruiting NFL type players these days on a regular basis and are getting better and better at it. Now I think they need to get better at playing the right guys, some guys perform 10 times better in games then practice and some do both well. I really liked some of those 2nd and 3rd string guys I saw the other night. Sione T is a beast and should get sone playing time from what I saw. Gilmore didn't look that bad, Jefferson should be out there with mills. I also really liked that linebacker that switched to DE last year. He looked really good, can't remember his name?

So, based on what you just said, what does it imply that LSU is recruiting a ton of the same guys as aTm? Star rankings should take a back seat to evals, but the difference now is that aTm is a legit destination, and UT isn't there to fight them. Before they always beat up on each other, with UT seeming to be more attractive to defensive players. Now aTm is getting them all. As they win more games, the call to stay home will get louder. LSU will get players out of Texas just like we do in Florida, I'm not worried about that, but the consolidation of power into one state program is never good for the out of state schools.

They hired Strong because of his recruiting abilities. Texas will be fine despite a bad loss or five.

Sumlin's contract includes a huge buyout if he leaves before the stadium renovations are complete. They knew that was a possibly and ensured, also through the facility upgrades, that they're going to be a very attractive job before he has the option to leave.

His approach is going to take a long time to pay off though, and I'm not sure UT will be that patient. He is stressing work ethic and accountability, and is all business. Strong makes his players live in dorms. Sumlin has DJs at practice. You tell me which one is gonna nab the most raw talent and see better short term results.

Most of you don't understand that elite Texas football players do not want to play in the Big 12 anymore. The Big 12 is a dumpster fire conference and they don't get excited about visiting Ames, Lawrence, Morgantown, Stillwater, Lubbock, etc to play a game with their small stadiums and small time atmospheres. Texas and OU are not getting the interest of Texas elite they once did.

The SEC is here to stay in Texas.

Strong's recruiting abilities were centered around his connections to Florida. If you saw Texas' class after he was hired, his main commits came from players in Florida.

I just don't think a disaster of a year one in a very weak conference is going to win him any connections in Texas. They won't get shut out, but it will be uphill sledding until he can turn it around.

He was offered the Eagles job before they hired Chip Kelly and turned it down. He was also asked to be interviewed last offseason by multiple teams and refused. He's not a guy with an NFL pedigree and I just don't see him making the jump any time soon, unfortunately.

I absolutely couldnt believe Tyrone freaking Swoopes was their actual backup QB.

On Austin sports talk they talk about Swoops like he could be a mini-RG3
