Eh, CFB is the closest we have but I wouldn't say its the same experience
I only realized Monday of last week, that LSU opened the season this past weekend... I'd have never guessed that in a million years..
And to top it off, night of, I had to go home early to watch a soccer match at 7:30am... not early enough, cause I was hanging a bit during the match..
Times have changed for me over the past 10 years...

Now tell me which one leaves the game early.
Depends on where you are.
As for Ultras, let's not confuse passion for lunacy, which is the case in some places.

Might not be the best comparison.
You can be an ultra for life. You can be a student for 4 years...or 6 if you're me.

Not in the Stretford End or the Kop. You would never see it in Germany.
but it happens in college football even in the SEC

Like I said, it depends on where you are. I'm not saying ultras are going to leave. That's not a rock solid comparison by any means.
It's different. I get that. But college football is the closest thing Americans can get to European football, and vice versa. Trying to downplay one or the other is just your opinion. But I don't think you can deny they're close.

What am I supposed to do? Love the mystique and aura than surrounds CoMS? It doesn't exist. I would LOVE for it to but it doesn't exist, likely never will, and there is DICK I can do about it. Why worry?
I love the fact that we're pretty much the little brother growing up and coming to wreck shite.
This is all great, and I'm glad you embrace it. But not wishing your stadium was full is just silly. It has nothing to do with auras. It has to do with being a fan of a team that has fans that care so much about their team that they go nuts when they watch them.
I don't know, I guess different strokes. That being said City's away fans are some of the best in the country because they are exactly what I described above.

Yeah, lemme slip down to the local bar here in Bossier and sing along with all the other Citeh fans.
We just love our teams in different ways. For me, I would follow Liverpool into the 3rd division. I don't care. Its much more than winning matches for me. Its about the community and its identity and love for the team that's always been there. I guess I can understand if you feel differently.

Well, there's not that strong of a community *yet* for City. You can go find a bunch of Liverpool fans and drink with them and watch the matches together, and that's great.
It's not there yet for City, especially in the States. So I'm giving the guy a pass here, sue me.
ETA: but I would want an awesome crowd following my team at all times. Saying I don't care...if it's just me brushing off the fact that they don't have it...is kinda weak.

Its the closest we have and the NFL to an extent in places like Philly, DC, Pittsburgh, Seattle.
But once you actually see the level it is in person it makes you say wow. When you meet Americans who have got to see an overseas match they are amazed.

I'm talking about community as in Merseyside, not New Orleans or Finns. I love the identity the team shares with the place it was born. That translates to more than just silverware.

Alright, then. I have nothing to counter with because I guess I haven't been bitten by the bug live yet.
I just feel it's gonna be reaaaaaaaally close to the connection college football programs have to their towns, especially ones like Auburn, Athens and Tuscaloosa. Maybe it's different for y'all, I don't know.
They both are pretty hardcore religions, honestly.

I would love it if they packed the house and cheered their asses off every match but it isn't likely to happen and I can't change it. I don't worry about it for that reason. It isn't that I don't care, it just doesn't bother me.

Oh I would too. I love the trophies but I also realize we're just riding a wave right now that teh Sheikh is responsible for. It won't last forever so why not enjoy it while it lasts? I know like 2 City fans other than me and my girlfriend. We talk about it alot and whenever they're on and we're free, we watch matches.

And I enjoy the community as much as I can. I post quite a bit on BlueMoon forum but that's about all I CAN get around here. Everyone here is a Chelsea or ManU fan...maybe a few Pool fans scattered about. There just isn't as much "community" as I would like.
I'm a huge fan of the USMNT and participate in the outlaws chapter here (founding member) but there isn't anything like that for City here.

Look I think SCH loves to humble brag about his European adventures as much as the next guy, but this is one where he's right.
Its not close. You'll see one day though, little one. Your soul will be enlightened.

Exactly. What the hell can I do to support City more? shite, I have a City flag draped over my drum kit rack whenever I play live shows. Nobody knows WTF it means

Again, I would LOVE for that to happen...but what can I do to change it? It is a ManUre town and that is HIGHLY unlikely to change. They're historically a better team as of right now and it'll take generations to change that.
I care about the support and I would be elated if we got to ManUre/Pool levels but it isn't realistic to obsess over.

Oh pshhhhhh. Don't be so dramatic. I was just kidding. Its only my opinion and unlike SCH I won't say that you thinking differently is wrong. I just want to hear your thoughts after you've gone to a match.

I'm going to go one day, and it's going to be a dream come true, but I've seen the passion folks have in this state for college football, 24/7/365.
If my experience blows what I've seen from college football out of the water, then I don't know what to believe anymore.

I know you were just kidding. But "little one?" I'M NOT THAT YOUNG, MAN.
Hopefully I can make this happen in the next few years.
