Seems complicated to me too. Like herding cats. Haven't we tried some of this already? Do we really have the stomach (and resources) to maintain a presence over there, working toward what seems like an unattainable goal? I don't want to seem like a Debbie Downer, but "winning over the hearts and minds" doesn't seem to be working.

Yeah. It seems like a period of isolationism is in order. I'd like for some of these other "world leaders" (England, France, Germany, etc) who have more skin in the game (closer to Middle East) to carry the load for a while. Also, we don't have the will to act decisively...we're exhausted. Let's just let others handle it for a while.

As long as Iraq is a failed state, they won't. IS will intimidate them into joining or at the least being complacent.

The key point to all of this is the political pressure to be inclusive that we can bring to bear with leverage from the airstrikes we just provided in the North.

You mean when we were asked to leave by the Iraqi government (the one we were trying to get out of)...and when we tried to obtain legal protections for U.S. servicemen in Iraq we were denied? That time?

when people criticize those who formerly supported Bush who now don't, they don't understand that most of those people have become war weary and now fully understand that we can't do shite to fix the middle east.
I agree, the criticism is misplaced. Those people should be criticized for believing that this was ever the intent.

Government has no intentions of taking care of its own people. Why would you believe they would try to do so with people halfway around the globe?

ETA: And please explain why people constantly criticize government in every other aspect of existence, but when it comes to this, government somehow magically transforms into this angelic savior of the world? And anyone who dares cross that line of criticism is looked upon as an outcast?

Please explain the logic in that?

I seriously don't understand why those guys would ever surrender in that scenario.

You have absolutely nothing to lose by fighting to the death.

This is what I cannot figure out. Fight to the death is the only answer.

Probably a bit easier said than done. Perhaps they are thinking that they'll get sprung or will be let go. Same with the kidnappee's of the Mexican cartels - they are never released.

Your job is to unconditionally believe....not to try and figure out stuff.

Who are you angry with? Is it the Indonesians? They have the largest Muslim population on earth. How about Morocco? I bet the casino at Casablanca pisses you off or is it they stole Grace Kelly? The problem with ignorant bigots like you is your ignorance of why you hate so much. The majority of Muslims do not live in the middle east nor have they had any thing to do with terrorism or fighting with this country. You act as if there is some secret Muslim communication network where they all get together and plot every night. I am not responsible for every act committed around the world by Christians and it would be asinine for me to hold all Muslims accountable for the acts of others.
