0-30 would never cross MJ's mind.

A good shooter should keep shooting through a slump not shut himself down. Obviously it looks worse on a stat sheet, but mentally it is the right approach for a professional athlete, imo.

anybody who played basketball knows this is true.

i think people are taking kobe a little too literally here.

When his main objective for the team is to be the #1 scoring option, then yes you are correct. Any great shooter/scorer would all say the same thing

It would be great to watch Kobe play with a PG that went 0-30.

I'm sure he would be happy that his PG didn't stop shooting.

No shite, a point guard is not a shooting guard...

You don't see a problem with a guy shooting again after he's already missed 29 shots in a game?

If your name is MJ, Kobe, Lebron, Durant, etc... then no, i would have no problem at all

That's selfish and stupid. Sounds exactly like something Kobe would say though. He'd rather try to get stats than do what's best for the team.

Yea cause thats exactly what he means...

He said he'd rather go 0-30. So he'd rather "not be taken out of the game mentally" while wasting possessions for his team. That is selfish and stupid.

Who decides if its a wasted possession? What if hes open for most of those shots? You'd rather Kobe pass up an open jump shot and pass it off to Luke Walton? You people are acting like he would just start taking turn around 3's from the corner with 3 guys in his face the whole time

In the playoffs you want him chucking when he's clearly not on his game? Or do you want him to make the best basketball play?
You say this like they're 2 different things, but that's not so.

I always want Kobe or any player to make the best basketball play. 0 for 30 or not, the best basketball play is to sometimes shoot the ball, so yes I do want Kobe to still shoot the ball.

Exactly. If youre the teams best scorer and also happen to be one of the leagues best players I dont want you passing up an open jumper just because you missed the shots before that.

My premise is that if he's shooting that poorly, odds are the team has a gameplan in place to stifle him, and it's effective.

Maybe I'm taking him too literally but no player should ever end up 0-30. Maybe it would've been better if he said keep shooting. I understand you don't completely stop shooting if you're 0-9 but I think you find opportunities for your teammates, and that inherently would result in fewer shots for him.

Yea, you are taking him to literally. He simply saying he doesnt keep playing aggressive just because he missed some shots earlier in the game. Hes saying that if he stops shooting then the other team won and took him out of his game

It's awesome that Bryant said this because it gives fat old schlubby white guys a chance to pretend he doesn't have a good point and bitch about how he isn't a team player.

I haven't read any of the thread; I'm assuming there's a few of those guys in it.

Taking him way too literally

All he is saying is basically "if I go down I'm going down swinging"

As a fighter, if everytime I step forward to throw a punch I get countered and hurt, I can't shut it down and say "well I better play defense and just try to survive till the end so I can lose a decision."

That isnt a winners attitude. I would need to adjust and keep trying to get myself back in the fight. If in the last round and I still haven't figured a guy out, well frick it I better swing for the fences by that point and risk getting KOd. At least I went for it instead of holding on for dear life not giving myself the proverbial "punchers chance"

Upvote. Never met a shot he didn't like. Also see Carmelo Anthony.

That's not really the same thing though. You don't have a teammate out there.

That's a really dumb question. You're better than that.

Unless I really need to explain to why KBeezy not being able to tap in a teammate if he's getting his arse kicked isn't a good comparison to one guy out of 5 choosing to keep sucking instead of allowing someone else to try.
