Chessie... Have you shot any other 1911s in comparison to the TRP? I got in contact with a guy who ran the gun area where I used to work back in the day. Dude carries a Kimber regularly and said right now he'd buy the TRP.
I've held it and like it, but the Dan Wesson talk has me wanted to look into them as well

I personally have a a few 1911s and have shot quite a few more. I'd be happy to let you shoot the piss out of mine. I can assure you there will be no buyers remorse. The Dan Wesson is a fine piece but personally I don't think you're getting any more gun.

I've shot a few brands, but it was 10-12 years ago. They were limited to several kimbers, colts, paras and base model Springfields. Not many back then dealt in the semi custom set ups other than Kimber.
Now, I've shot a ton of sigs, hks, kahrs etc etc...

But, from what I'm seeing that TRP is a good way to go. Also, hard to beat the cust service as well. Can't you send in the gun and get damn near anything you want done to it by their smiths?

i'm not sure why anyone would buy a $1500 1911 as a first time HD weapon.

if you really have $1500 to spend, why not drop $500 on a glock, m&p, cz etc. for home defense, and then $1000 on a decent 1911 that you can fondle and keep in the safe.

One of my shotguns is my self defense choice.... Dude, I'm not a first time gun owner. I'm buying this as something to use... Not sit on a shelf. Why are you worried about what I want to spend anyways?
I want a 1911. Just asking questions about them. I don't want a glock and they don't fit me well... I'll buy a sig or an HK if I'm going that route anyways.
I like nice guns... I've shot and sold 10-25,000 shotguns and rifles... Same things with knives etc...
It's a bad problem to have, but it is what it is...

It's sometimes hard to imagine a gun in that price range being a bargain but that's exactly what it is. Customer service is that good and they'll assist you in any way possible. They even stay cool and helpful when you get frustrated.

As for the gunsmithing yes they will do anything you can imagine but it's not cheap. Quality will be spot on and they will fix problems from that point forward.
