They're out there in the middle of the week.. Go on a Tuesday or Wednesday and just follow the trail of dead snapper and grouper

Oh, you meant for pelagics, idk about that but I'll still leave my previous statement regarding reef fishes

Don't try to bring that bs into this opportunity to bitch about Obama. Clearly he hates recreational fishermen with boats. Notice that you don't see any regulation of bank fishermen!

I have absolutely no stats to back this up but I wouldn't think too much commercial pelagic fishing is done in the Gulf due to the distance having to be traveled compared to the Atlantic. We have seen a couple long liners out there but I don't recall ever seeing any other commercial vessels in blue water

There are some out there. In the 80's & 90's there was probably around 150+ long line boats in Louisiana. Not it is probably down to about 20 or less.

They also have some boats in Texas and in the panhandle of Florida.

Imports (fresh tuna, mahi, etc.) from South America and Asia and regulations (difficulties in getting permits and restrictions like no live bait for long liners) plus a few other factors have changed that.

Some laws and regulations need to be disobeyed. It would be interesting to see what enforcement and the judiciary would do if we all kept a couple snapper per trip.

After speaking to a few of my nutjob conspiracy theorist acquaintances, I've come to the conclusion that government's main job is to tax us to just below the level where we will revolt. This Amendment 40 is crossing that line when it comes to management of our fisheries. It's time for an OB revolution and YOU

pelagic comment. Sorry meant in the gulf of Mexico, and was talking about Kings Spanish mackerel, cobia, etc. Not Tuna sharks etc.

BTW 95% of people who spoke out at meeting last night spoke in favor of sector separation. They came from as far away as Key West and Corpus Christi. Standing room only.

It is a done deal. They will announce in the Fall.

It's hard to compete when there's money involved. Meaning they have a financial stake and we have a recreational stake (costs us money).

They were probably paid to show up. I'm assuming it was 95% charter captains/owners or their shills.

CCA - Coastal Conservation Association
I don't see how red snapper help "conserve the coast".
I'm glad they're on our side, but why would they have interest in this? Would their membership dwindle if they didn't get involved?

Ummm issues like this is why this is an organization. CCA encompasses everything around the coast. Land, water, fisheries.

Why does NRA fight for concealed handgun permits? i mean you cant really conceal a big rifle. (if you dont get the sarcasm i cant help you)

That's what really sucks, and because offshore fishing is such a small community anyway it's much easy to frick over the recreational guys than say if they were trying to tell us that we could only fish for speckled trout from March-April and keep 1 fish.
