I don't think many are horribly ported but it definitely still happens. Consoles are going to be the lead platforms for the majority of games in development. I still think the optimization of having to design for one sets of specs allows the developers to do more.

Drivers are a big part of it. John carmack had said in interviews that PC drivers are the issue since they don't have direct hardware access. It will be interesting to see if programs like mantle can catch on and change this.

I agree with that but even then more power is going to make up for other shortcomings in design to a degree.

I have yet to run across a game that was horrible on PC. Fallout 3 was the closest and all it took to optimize that was about 30 seconds in the settings.

If you play the "shitty port" card then you have to acknowledge the modding community which blows both console games and vanilla PC versions out of the water on games like Skyrim, Fallout, Sim City and Civ.

Indeed it does. Whether this box does, I don't know. I wish they'd do comparisons on AC4, BF4, etc.

I'm not sure how the X1 vs. PS4 comparison works, because they both have the same set advantages over PC. The PS4 just has more power. To that point, Ryse looks great and is comparable to the best games on PS4 so far. It's still early though, looking forward to what developers are going to bring in the years to come.

I could make it 5-6 years very easily with my current build.

I upgrade and build new builds often because I like to do it. It's a hobby I, and many other PC enthusiasts, enjoy.

The cost of upgrading is also greatly offset by how much cheaper the games are.

Not to mention how often builders go overkill.

I could easily shave ~$400 off my current rig and be just fine for 5 years.

It was a very common problem actually. It had to do with windows 7 incompatibility.

Except DayZ is coming to PS4. These Steam machines will put as big a dent in the console market as the Ouya.

There will be new consoles before DayZ is ready for console

I feel that while they are both true, they're unrelated
