I'd say UNC. If their fans could get really behind football they could become huge.

Kind of like the genius who thinks Hawai'i can build an on-campus stadium in Manoa.

They can't get light bulbs changed but they can get an on-campus stadium in a place that has zero land to develop.

Someone has a little UCLA penis envy. Strange. UCLA is doing good things under Jim Mora Jr. Westwood is an awesome location, UCLA is a renowned university, and the Rose Bowl is filled with history. Yes, it's old, but the Coliseum is pretty decrepit, too

Didn't read through every page, but how Illinois isnt named is beyond me.

They have a lot of talent in state and are the only show in the state(NW is a speed bump). Their problem is, Notre Dame gets the chicago kids.

U get a coach who can keep top talent in illinois and pull the kids from around the area, and Illini could easily be a top big10 team, yearly.

Illinois has the same problem as Maryland and UNC...a basketball school at heart.

That said, it's ridiculous they're not better. They should own Chicago in recruiting top talent, but they can't even attract players to get bowl eligible. Problem is, no one in their fan base seems to care.

Remember when Al Groh was recruiting #1 talent to UVA and they shite the bed year after year?

UVA gets a good coach they will be good, their AD and they whole dept is pretty terrible though imo

UVA should be a sleeping giant. Given the territory.

But they are such a pretty-boy, soft-culture school - the heart isn't in it to get down and dirty.

To be a sleeping giant...you have to want it...but just haven't got the access yet.

UVA again...like UCLA, doesn't have the culture to be truly great in football.

You can't just point to geography and say - "Look, sleeping giant!"

You have to know and analyze - the culture and institution...are they really a sleeping giant hungry for football and willing to be ruthless to get it? Will the culture allow them to get down and dirty? UVA - no.

Or are they just..."a gentle potential giant?" Who won't ever take that leap.

UVA is historically one of the softest schools on the football field in history.

UCF and NC State are the only good options here.

UCF is a massive school with a good amount of money to play around with and they're in a new conference that they can be the flagship of.

NC State has finally invested into their facilities and they have some nice traditions. All they need is some blue collar recruits for a few years and they'll take off.

I think you're pretty much right. Like you said, it's a basketball school. But it's tough to say they should "own" Chicago. Chicago is closer to South Bend than Champaign and obviously SB is home to a much better program (both historically and currently). And lastly, it's not like Chicago is a major football hotbed. They produce some good players, but not like Miami, Cincinnati, Dallas/Houston, southern California, etc. Still, Illinois should be able to get enough recruits to consistently be around .500, but I really think only every decade or so will they produce a team that challenges for the Big Ten/a major bowl (like in 89, 01, 07...).

University of Houston - if they get more exposure and create a better campus atmosphere(drop the commuter school moniker), they have all the resources to be a powerhouse...recruiting, money, alumni, big market, etc.

They've shown signs in the past with good runs during the 70's and 80's, the Jack Pardee/Andre Ware/David Klingler era, and Art Briles/Kevin Sumlin recently.

Miami. They need someone to lock down south florida in terms of recruiting again. If they could do that they would be a national power again.
