FIFY

I would say it is a toss up between Rand and Perry/Bush in 2016. Obama is poison for the dems and hiliary cannot and will not excite the country like Obama did.

And that could be where Romney has an advantage over other GOP candidates. He's been through the gauntlet of the general election. There's no skeleton that Hillary can uncover because it would've come out already.

I think the Mormon religion is always a ticking time bomb. Obama couldn't really play that card bc it would have brought up more "Muslim" talk.

We keep moving left socially in America and the Mormon beliefs will seem more and more outdated as we move along. And Hillary has this one shot - she'd maybe be willing to attack religion if she felt it was needed.

Do you think he's had long enough to figure out his tax plan? Or are we just gonna have more "pick a number" Romney?

I'd say he has significantly less time on his hands than you do. That being said, what's your idea for the appropriate tax plan?

That said, I can easily see Rand Paul emerging from the field and giving Hillary a really tough time in the General.

Just imagine how many backroom deals will be made between the field "Alright Rand, you drop out and you'll get XYZ, but I want those damn votes!"

Unless the Republican Party can get their shite together, this is who I'm voting for:

Rand but he will have to do it not only without support from the GOP machine

Really? I canvassed for his Dad but stopped following Rand because it seemed he was making a concerted effort to appease and play the party game. Its surprising to me to hear that he garnered no support from those efforts....

Rand has moderated a bit, but he's still to "fringe" for the country-club GOP that holds power. If he gets a push from the machine, it will be a reluctant one and only because he won the nomination. Think "Bob Dole" but with less enthusiasm.

Hard to say.

I think it's easier to say who has a realistic chance and who doesn't, because it's easy to find strengths and weaknesses among all these candidates:

Those who I think can possibly win:

Jeb Bush, Chris Christie, Bobby Jindal, Rand Paul, Rick Perry (although he's borderline), Rob Portman, Marco Rubio, Paul Ryan, Scott Walker

Those who I think can't:

John Bolton (will be seen as too much of a firebrand), Ben Carson (inexperience), Ted Cruz (firebrand), Rick Santorum (firebrand/has been)

A lot of this is just tone. You can be conservative (i.e. Rubio, Walker), you just can't scare children, like Cruz.

In regard to Mitt Romney, I don't think he can win. People say they would vote for Romney over Obama now, but they didn't, and come 2016, the political atmosphere will be different. Romney has too much loser stank to be viable I think.

Romney. Buyer's remorse has set in.

As much as people are unhappy with Obama, the Republican party is twice as toxic. The only way a Republican can win the presidency is if someone puts a muzzle on the most extreme elements and a 3rd party like the Green or Ralph Nader can split off enough of the vote to sneak a Republican in.

Just ask the Democrats, they really are the only ones who know what is best for the Repubs.

Romney is smart, but he speaks from memorization and not from his heart. Just a smart talking head. Rand Paul goes toe-to-toe with anybody and won't back down. He remains faithful to fundamentals.

Rand Paul - Ben Carson would be a killer ticket.

My greatest hope would be a Trey Gowdy type of individual who could care less about getting re-electing (Rand would fit) and more for righting the ship in 4-years.... a sacrificial lamb of sorts.

Anybody who has the b---s to stand up to terrorists, increase the defense budget and slam down continued efforts to divide this country along economic, racial, you-name-it lines. And I know you asked about Republicans, but that certainly excludes Billary!

I honestly think Romney would win if he ran again. He's predicted several things that have come true and he could run on that.
