but you see how the original content that was so popular doesn't figure into it...the prequels and the EU...star wars had a really nice simplicity to it all, I feel like the prequels AND the EU kind of ruin all of that...sure I can push it out of my brain

but I can't unread SOTE
and I can't unsee the prequels

Destroying Alderaan made sense because weren't they essentially funding the Rebellion while pretending to remain neutral?

When you control a territory that spans much of a galaxy, you kind of need a planet destroying weapon even without the threat of another invader out there.

also, I took it the OP to mean would it change my view of the prequels to have this added information, thereby making palpatine, his overly convoluted and unrealistic scheme, and his odd decisions justifiable (in the sense that they're no longer nonsensical)

I could spend 24 hours thinking about the holes and nonsensical things associated with just palpatine in the prequels...all the OP does is just further convolute things to say "see the prequels aren't that bad"

that's how I understood it...otherwise, how would it change my opinion of star wars?

and brother, justifying anything from the prequels is a serious offense

They should have just called the rebels terrorists and had all the news shows say everything the rebels were doing was striking terror. No one likes terrorists. You don't even have to understand their cause or see why maybe what they are fighting for is really against an imperialist nation interfering with their region. Just call them terrorists and the mindless idiots wont even think twice about hating them.

If the Vong don't exist in the new continuity, it kinda takes the steam out of any theory like this.

EU is lame as frick anyway. I read about four books and the only thing that ever interested me was Thrawn.

Don't care if they ignore it all except 4 - 6.

Doesn't change anything. Either way Palpatine is a fricking boss.

Now, as they also admitted in the films, the Death Star was to be used to keep the scattered planets/systems under control. As Tarkin said, fear is the ultimate goal of this battle station.

Now, does that mean that this fan fiction isn't right? Nope. Palpatine is smart enough to know that he can use them for both. This very well can fit perfectly into the story as is.

You you've read the three Thrawn books and one other? So you liked the three Thrawn books, but not the other one, and this is your basis for the EU being lame? Interesting.

And Fox, I'm curious, have you read any of the New Jedi Order Yuuzhon Vong books?

I've read all the accompanying material...references guides, etc. I was interested in very little of it, except maybe the Mandalorian stuff.

I also read Thrawn as a teenager, so it might not be as appealing to me either.

OP, I think this was inferred in the books at some point. It's not a new idea.

I never caught that. You don't happen to have a link, do you?

Sorry for the late response. Look here: LINK

quote:

It is known that, by 27 BBY, at the start of the Outbound Flight Project, Palpatine had somehow gained knowledge of the incoming Yuuzhan Vong fleet, though he planned to withhold it from the Republic until after his New Order could be instituted. At least one of his subordinates, Kinman Doriana, was informed, however. The distant threat of invasion was also part of the reason Palpatine ordered the destruction of Outbound Flight in order to prevent its occupants from falling into the hands of the Yuuzhan Vong (and also to eliminate six Jedi Masters and 12 Jedi Knights).[29] Following the end of the Clone Wars, Emperor Palpatine let out hints of the Yuuzhan Vong to the public. One of his official justifications for maintaining the Imperial Navy even after the war had ended was to ward off the threat of extra-galactic invasion.

I haven't read Outbound Flight in a while, so I can't remember the specifics. I gave up on Star Wars books after the Darth Jacen story arc. I feel they strayed too far from what Star Wars should be. Between the Vong and the Killiks, I really have grown to hate the EU.
