why do you say that?
pretty common bring younger squads to the GC resting the vets, especially those in Europe.
you may be right, but id bet against it pretty heavily. especially with copa america coming up the year after. Gold Cup will be used to let the pups try and grow and see who can cut it.

The pattern has always been, 1 GC you bring a young squad, next one you bring your A-Team.

I might be in the minority here, but I see no drop off between Guzan and Howard. I would actually rather see Guzan start getting real playing time as the number 1.

this is true but i wonder how it will change since we won the last one with the new format. i hope it doesnt change and that we bring an A-squad, win it, and frick the playoff.

ya its a different format now. you used to have one gold cup that was meaningless and one that meant everything. so that doesnt apply.

well, we could technically guarantee ourselves a birth in the confederations cup if we win soo...

Even though Guzan will get the nod, any chance we see some Bill Hamid? Or is his star a little less bright these days?

That makes no sense towards what you are arguing. If they both mean something now, wouldn't you want to bring an A-squad for both?

I think it will be a mixture of vets and young guys.

I disagree. I think we take our best 23 next June because the other countries are all going to bring their best squads with hopes of getting into the playoff.
You use these upcoming friendlies to get the young guys into a camp and see where they rank amongst our regulars.

Everything Jurgen does from here on out is to prepare for 2018. He's not even going to call up any vets the rest of the year. I think he'll take some of the guys we see in the next few friendlies and stick them with some of the more experienced guys next summer.

And the Gold Cup is a part of that.

i kind of think this as well, but i also dont. if everyone else is bringing a top squad, there is no better way to get your top team experience and time competing against teams that will be in qualifying and that are actually good. plus it is a tournament setting. yeah i think some young guys will be on the roster and get playing time, but they will be guys that are seen as projected to make the 23 in 2018, not the shite that we saw last gold cup.
