Yeah, but a 5k bike is like a 200k car. 10k bikes are like buying 1-2 million dollar car. Which does happen, as well

Follows the rise in 3 figure ice chests though I can't talk because I bought a Specialized Tarmac for $2300 in 2006. It replaced a bike that was 11 years old at the time. That said, no Huffy would stand up to 3K+ miles a year. I rip guys who buy Yeti's but to each his own.

not my friend but here's someone else also selling a super 6 evo for $10,000 on ebay

super six EVO

$10k doesn't necessarily get you top of the line components. if you read any cycling magazines you'd see they are loaded with bikes well into 5 digits.

yeah I wouldn't pay 4 figures for a bike. Getting pretty close though on a Rockhopper Comp.

yep, easier to write a check than train harder.

people have different hobbies and different tastes in quality.

how is this different than people spending $32,000 on golf clubs?

You can drop $15K in a heartbeat once you start upgrading components and wheels on top of the line bikes. Just the frameset of the new Cervelo Rca is $10,000. The average Ironman finisher pulls in $160,000 a year. People want the best and have disposable income.

I don't think you can find a set of golf clubs that retail for $32k.

i lost 5th place in the TN 40k state time trial by 1/4 of a second to my best friend after a one hour ride.

i have no problem with triathletes getting an edge by improving their equipment.

do you all think its stupid they connect their shoes to their bike pedals and hold them on with rubber bands to speed the transition to cycling?

yeah, it wasnt about a mathematical comparison but quality/value comparison. A 200k car usually has quite a step up in quality/value from a standard priced car, but a 1-2 mil car only has a marginal improvement and usually in one main area(engine) from a 200k car, just like with the 10k bikes and frames

The Five Star golf club set from the Japanese manufacturer called Honma is the most expensive set currently on the market. By set, the company means drivers, woods, irons, wedges and putter, along with the bag, tees and head covers. The Honma Five Star golf set has 14 pieces, each made out of gold and platinum. The brand is especially popular in Japan, though there are some prominent celebrity users in the United States, like the actors Jack Nicholson and Danny DeVito. This club set is priced at $32,000.

Professional golfers don't even come close to $32k in the value of their clubs.

Outside of me finding some limited edition Scotty Cameron, I don't think I could even get to $4,000 for a 14-club set.
