Now we want the Genie and upgrades (4 years later). We pay on average $180 a month for Direct TV and $120 for phone. The installer comes out (Same one as 4 years ago) and says the dish needs to be moved so it can be grounded to our meter and he will need to bust a hole again in my sheetrock. I tell him to take a hike. All I wanted was new receivers and he now says he has to redo the whole job due to new rules.

FWIW, I'm pretty sure he's correct though

he doesn't necessarily make the rules, but new equipment probably requires a new dish which would have to be installed according to their new policies

I'm surprised he can't run a grounding wire from the dish location to the meter location though....thats what they did at my house

you are telling him to take a hike when he's doing his job according to his employers rules

Eta: FWIW, i called once my contract was up last month asking for my bill to be lowered and got 25 bucks off for the next 12 months as well as free sunday ticket this year

I didn't get any new equipment though...I already have the genie

What say you in OT world?

Sounds like you're whining. It's a fricking hole in the sheetrock. Yeah, you are getting new equipment that is light years ahead of the 4 yr old shite you were using. You honestly think he's bullshitting you and he's just dying to make more work for himself?

And $500 will get you through 9 football games at BWW for you and your wife? That works out to a little over $55 per game. Figure in the hassle of driving to the fancy establishment in the snow (I'm assuming you will see snow for some of these games in Il?), gas, tips for the waiter....well, you get the point. Just install the new fricking equipment and call it a day and enjoy all of the games in the comfort of your home. Jesus

I'd call the phone company & threaten to leave, they WILL knock your bill down. I have AT&T with 3 lines (need them for business). The bill was about $160 or so a month. I called to cancel one of the lines & they told me to keep them & they'd reduce the bill. The bill is now less than $100 with tax.

We just scheduled an upgrade to the whole home dvr setup. They told me you have to agree to a 2 yr contract. And early termination would result in a fee of $20 for each remaining month.

Buy some coax and run the wires yourself how you want it. You can have up to 2 wireless genie clients so 2 tvs don't need coax wires.

You can have that for free buddy. No need to pay for anything other than an HDTV Amplified Antenna.

Do you have any friends with directv?
Just buy it for them and stream it to your tv. The quality is actually really good I've used it quite a bit.

The equipment we have is fine. It is just a "new rules compliance thing". They are perfectly fine with letting me keep things as they are and doing nothing. I don't want cables wrapped around my house. What OT baller would?

Just slip the installer a C-note and he'll hide everything for you. At least that's what I did and there are no wires visible anywhere.

I heard they were offering Sunday Ticket via tablet or laptop for those without Direct TV.
