the first (almost) quarter of my life was spent in the decade

Your using data of the worst of that time to trash the while of that time in a gross oversimplification.

I'll try this again...
Imagine if someone was trying to compare living in Louisiana to living in Alabama. On the one hand they cite the govt projects of New Orleans and on the other hand they cite the muli-million dollar country clubs of Mountain Brook for Alabama. And they use these two factors as to why Alabama is a better place to live.

i gave a list of very important data, but it all falls along the same pattern. like i said, pretty much ALL negative social data hit its peak in the mid 80s-early 90s

the only negative that i know for sure has increased is child birth outside of marriage (and it wasn't low back then, it's just incrementally raised)

i'm willing to allow you to show me data that i'm ignorant of that refutes my point. that's why i'm asking for your data

that is what you people are doing, acting like the negative or positive societal traits are limited to specific areas of your choosing

i'm looking at the NATIONAL data, which does not reflect what you just said in any way, shape, or form

you're right. it's better, because my biases are not shown. in all honesty, being an individualist introvert who doesn't live in a cultural mecca allows me perspective on all periods of my life, so it's all the same to me.

what data are you using to claim this?

My wife's family owns some banks and they said in the 80s people with mortgages would leave the house key in the banks mailbox and leave town.

Statistically SFP is correct. Then why is he most likely in the minority here? I think it has to do with the living in the post 9/11 era, along with the internet. We are so aware of how horrible things are globally. We've been physically targeted by terrorists on our soul.
Also, we spent quality time with friends and family. Now it's spent on social networking sites and message boards. Fear and technology has caused us to detach. We engaged more in the 80s.

It was bad fin alot of dad's worked in the oldfields back in the 80's including my dad. Seems like most men that didn't attend college in the 80's worked in the oilfields or something dealing with them. My dad was a mechanic/carpenter/oilfield guy. There was nothing job wise when the oil business went bust in the 80's. I knew 3 families that had nothing when their dad lost his job including their house. Great music and cool shite in the 80's but it was though in thev80's in Louisiana.

Kids in the 80s respected their elders, unlike the youths of today.

Nah. I heard we didn't respect our elders in the 80's either. No youths respect their elders according to those elders.

Because most people consider personal experience? Of course we consider subjective criteria. I really don't care how others felt, on crime stats and other things that didn't affect me at the time.

According to 14th century sources, no generation was as disrespectful and lazy as the post-bubonic generation.

1980s were pretty shitty in Louisiana. The bottom of the oil industry fell out, a lot of businesses went belly up, and a lot of families struggled. Mortgage rates in 1981 were 13+% and everyone drove crappy cars. Those are huge downsides just for big hair and decent music.

The economy sucks in the 2010's but Louisiana is actually doing well, with lower unemployment rates than the rest of the country. AIDS isn't entirely everywhere now and our cars actually accelerate (although trucks and Jeeps in the 1980s were cool).

Movies were better but the clothing styles? No thanks.

One thing that is different is the moms are hotter now, even into their 40's or 50's.

Back then you didn't have women in their 30's,40's, 50's going to gym on a daily basis, getting implants, other forms of plastic surgery, etc. Thats definitely changed. Of course I'm someone who thought women at 30 or so were hotter than women at 20 back when I was 15.
