The fact that this thread did not end with a pic the dead BUFFALO on a skinning rack is the biggest disappointment I have ever had with the OB.

Since were on the topic of buffalos (or bison),why are the Buffalo Bills named the Bills but have a buffalo mascot??? WTF is a Bill

It came from a play on the famous western showman, Buffalo Bill. Oddly enough, the first pro football team in Buffalo was the Buffalo Bisons, who eventually changed their name to the Buffalo Bills, but are not the same franchise as the current.

Easier said than done. 11pm, cops everywhere, 700 pound animal whom shat itself everywhere dead on the asphalt, owner standing by.

Trust me, I would have loved to have that thing mounted on the wall

We had a live buffalo mascot at Baker High back in the 80's. One of the parents kept it in his pasture out on Comite Drive. Once it got big, thing kept getting loose, so he had to sell it and get a calf.

You graduate from Baker? I did in 1970

Alx doesn't LA still have some goofy loophole law due to old open range laws not being completely removed or some such that basically means the livestock owner gets sued by the car driver for not controlling his heard but the car driver gets sued by the livestock owner too for loss of property?

Depends on the highway it happened on. There is a list of highways around which livestock must be enclosed. (at La. R.S. 3:2803 if anyone wants to see the list....it's long). On any other highway an owner has no duty to keep the livestock enclosed and is usually immune from liability for damages caused by his livestock. In those areas the owner can recover damages for the loss of his livestock as well.

My dad tells a story of a guy he grew up with in St Helena parish. The guy was famous for the time em came over a hill and plowed through a herd of someone's Jerseys laying in the road. Killed something like 9 on the spot and another dozen or so had to be shot, for they were so crippled. Gotta be some kind of record.

He was also famous for working out a payment plan with the dairy owner and paying off said dead cows over a 10 yr period.

Could you imagine being drunk and having a buffalo run out in front of you?

Isn't the owner of livestock responsible?

That's a good question. It seems like the drunk person is ALWAYS the responsible party in any circumstance.

The driver, a woman, was charged with DWI.

She almost hit the owner of the buffalo that was standing in the middle of the road, flagging her down.

Car verse buffalo. No winner.
