Gah, how did I forget this one? Definitely in my top 5. I guess I bump Protomartyr to honorable mention.

I'm bordering on active dislike for Parquet Courts. The guy's voice makes me want to sling kittens by the tail for distance.

jack white is the whitest human being ever. the title track of his album is a fraction cooler than kid rock and limp bizkit. the rest of the album is awful. i would love to hear a new dead weather record though.

No order:

Native by OneRepublic
Sunshine & Whiskey by Frankie Ballard
10,000 Towns by Eli Young Band
Acoustic Mixtape by Sam Hunt

And I dunno any others ones off the top my head.

Probably Cole Swindells album, that was pretty good.

If you like country that Frankie Ballard album is incredible.

I listened to it while driving -- and I have a very high tolerance for songs I don't like while I'm driving -- and I had to skip through a good three songs on that album. Just did not sound good to me at all.

John Butler's "Flesh & Bone" needs to be in the conversation as well. This is a fantastic album.

I need to check that out. I'm a big JBT fan.

I think it's up there with Sunrise Over Sea. Grand National and April Uprising were good albums with some misses, but Flesh & Blood is great throughout. He is known for some awkwardly cheesy lyrics at times, and those are non existent on this one. Musically he is always on point, and he nails it here. He is my favorite guitarist, and he keeps on proving why.

I hear you. I still get goosebumps from the solo he does in Gonna Take It starting at about 2:30.

Recently caught up with all the noteworthy releases this year, which I admittedly had been lazy at following.

I still got to go with War on Drugs - Lost in the Dream as #1. The opening combo of "Under the Pressure" and "Red Eyes" is particularly stunning.

Other solid picks include Real Estate - Atlas, Todd Terje -.It's Album Time, Mac de Marco -Salad Days and Tycho - Awake .

A Sunny Day in Glasgow - Sea When Absent - I really like the music on here, but can't stand the vocals

Phish - Fuego . Yep.

Let's see, in some amount of order:

Future Islands - Singles (the clear cut best album of the year)
War on Drugs - Lost in the Dream
Brain Eno/Karl Hyde - High Life
Todd Terje - It's Album Time
Ought - More than Any Other Day
Mac Demarco - Salad Days

I haven't listened to a few things yet though, so that list could change a little bit

Sweet. Need to hear this.

On another note, I thought Spoon's new release was pretty meh. To be honest I haven't really enjoyed any of their stuff after a string of strong singles in the early '00s.

I echo both of those sentiments...

I didn't even know J had a solo record out..

I just haven't been interested enough to give the last couple of Spoon records a second spin... But they were prob my favorite band during the Series of Sneaks/Girls Can Tell era...
