They are definitely paid with the buyers funds at the end of the day.
I realize it may appear to be paid by the seller. ... but it just increases the cost till the seller gets the net they are looking for

Technically, it actually is correct.
But as you pointed out. It's all a semantics game. The realtors will end up costing both parties money one way or another. It's up to each party to decide if that cost is worth it.
