chevy stopped installing fuel filters in 2003 in their 1/2 ton pickups.

Don't you have to change the pump since it is on there? I can't remember what I did on my buddy's Suburban last, but I definitely dropped half of the tank to do something.

Yup, it's built into the pump assembly. I change a shitload of the pumps back in the day due to a fuel gauge sending unit TSB or recall...

How quick did you get it down to?

It's been several beers ago, but I'm pretty sure it paid 5 hours. I could do a truck in about 45 minutes and a tahoe/sub in about an hour and 15, if the tank wasn't full of gas.
Moving the bed back on the truck made it way easy!!! I'd lift it with a coworker and set it on the rear tires and bumper, then the rest was cake.

Plugs and wires. That's where I would start

IIRC, I just pulled the filler neck loose, dropped the rear almost completely on a Jack, and lowered the front until I could get at the pump. Not really hard at all. Saw it on YouTube
