I don't post much, but if all the reports are true then this is not a legally justified shooting. Tenn v. Garner established that an officer only has the right to use deadly force on a fleeing felon if he/she has reasonable grounds to believe that the felon is a serious threat to the safety to other around them. In this case if they had already searched him then obviously they had established that he was unarmed, which means he's not considered a threat.

"Indian money" is what they call it. Most don't make much money, and many don't work but they don't have any expenses, their regional or village organization takes care of most of it.
Some villages have high incomes. Barrow and Bethel come to mind, where the average household income is over 80k but I'll bet State jobs skew the numbers.. I have no idea where all that money comes from in Bethel (though it's a regional hub) but Barrow gets north slope money.
Most still live a subsistence lifestyle.

We will see what happens but I just can't recall cops being charged with murder or even manslaughter (most likely charge in this case). I am interested in what the investigation will show.

I don't like cops as much as the next guy, but are people really dumb enough to believe that policemen would execute an unarmed teenager in broad daylight in the street for no reason? Really speak up if you do.

Has this thread turned into a first date between Roger and Trout?

After some of the shite cops have been doing without care, yea i could actually believe it. Just be glad the there wasn't a dog present.

shite like this happens and the first thing I read is:
"How can they say get over it when racism still exists. #policehateafricanamericans"
Seriously, a kid, doesn't fricking matter the damn color of his skin, just got killed and people want to turn this into a white cop vs. black kid argument. I've seen black kids get shot by black cops, what is that Black on black crime?

The issue has more to do with the authoritarian domination of blacks in high crime areas than it has to do with regular whites v. blacks.

I realize the thread has moved on from this, but sometimes stupidity needs to be called out regardless.
No, bootlicker, that is not the comparative argument you need to be making here. Going with the line of the kid stealing a kit kat, the comparison to what you posted above would've been him choking on the kit kat and dying.
You swerving off the road, flipping over, and dying is a result of you being a shitty driver. It has absolutely no relation to your absolutely retarded blanket belief that it's ok to kill people that are breaking the law

From the photo caption in the link.
"The spokesman didn't give the reason for the shooting, nor provide the officer'a name or race."
Pretty much all you need to know about how the media is going to play this.

I believe it's possible the adrenaline pumped cop interpreted something the kid did or said as a threat that may or may not have been a threat and was too trigger happy. I think that there has been quite a few publicized accounts of cops choosing lethal force over over options. Maybe it's training, maybe it's cultural, maybe it's inability to use judgement to balance out bad experiences. Whatever it is & why it happens, it's still not right and needs to be stopped.

Again, the ONLY reason he would have been shot is if he acting like he was reaching for a weapon.
If he was truly innocent and was standing there with his hands up with a kit kat, he could tell the cops he would frick their mothers and they wouldn't shoot him....until he reaches for something.
Obviously we won't know everything until the facts come out, but the mom bitching and moaning about her innocent baby being gunned down while his hands were up is bullshite.

You do realize tasers, pepper spray, etc. have a limited range, right? They also don't have time to approach an unknown assailant with a firearm drawn, then switch to a taser after he makes a threatening move.

Some departments aren't allowed to carry tasers and chemical spray has a much more limited range.

I'm sure Sharpton and "Reverend" Jackson are boarding flights for StL already. Time for Trayvon 2.0

There were multiple witnesses that have stated that the kid was running with his hands held up, not just his mother. There's also a video someone shot that shows the same thing and that has been turned over to the police
Also important to the case, as I stated earlier in this thread, is why the cops didn't search the kid if he had been detained and was running from them. The story states that he was being put into a squad car and broke free running away with his hands held up. If they were putting him into a squad car, why did they not search him first and make sure no weapon was on him?

I feel the same way about high-speed pursuits. Adrenaline+poor driving technique+talking on the rad-dio is a recipe for disaster.
