3rd string RBs typically have the highest ypc out of the group. It doesn't make them good.

Mike Bell was a '3rd string RB' and he averaged 3.8ypc.

My journey with Mark Ingram:

I sucked up my Gump hate when we drafted Ingram cuz the Saints needed to replace what we lost in Mike Bell, "a guy that can help the Saints RBC get over 2000 yards", which is key to a successful Saints playoff run.

So I'm rooting for him his 1st year, but he ain't doing shite, despite getting most of the carries each game.

I keep pulling for him in his second year, but I find PT & Ivory move the chains better when it counts. Meanwhile Ingram is running hard into the backs of lineman and fumbling on 2nd efforts at crucial times.

Then last season, he starts off with something like 1.3 ypc and suddenly, I was over the Ingram experiment. Then all that Bama flag waving just seemed to make me hate him more, like Aaron Brooks smiling after an INT.

Just when I give up on him, that's when he starts producing, moving chains and getting 5+ ypc. That went thru the second half of the season and into the playoffs. I really want to like him again. But I've been burned for 2 1/2 years by him.

Then I see him in this preseason game against 2nd teamers and he goes all Emmitt Smith on them.

Not gonna jump back on the bandwagon just yet. Let me see him do it consistently. Maybe 16 games worth. I'd like to get one great year out of him before he becomes a Free Agent.

Here is a good write up on why Ingram and Richardson have struggled and Lacy has excelled.

So according to that, Lacy has excelled because he has not had to learn anything new, and Richardson has failed because he was asked to learn. Don't know if its true, but its certainly not flattering for either. FWIW, I think Richardson and Ingram will both have big years if healthy, regardless of system

Dude, just admit you're a falcon fan. You obviously don't want to give a Saint props. It's embarrassing for you.

My gripe with Ingram is more his on-field personality than the fact that he played at Bama. There's not question that he could have been labeled a bust after his first two seasons. He's showing some improvement now and I'm holding out hope. I just don't need to see a guy jump up and yell and scream and pound his chest after every four yard gain. I much prefer Pierre's style.

I think the guy was just saying that running backs are usually good in one or the other. Bama uses a ZB scheme so our guys are used to running out of it. I don't think it's a knock on their football intelligence.

Not sure if you read through that whole thread but, he touches on this point and talks about there are very few running backs that are good at both styles.

BTW Supposedly, that guy is a NFL scout.

You guys really couldn't be more transparent if you tried. It's college football. You guys are hating on kids that actually attended those schools. I'm not sure many people who are hating on the kid are LSU alums, but I'd venture to guess it's negligible. Seriously, grow up. Do you see anyone hating on Lofton because he use to play for the Falcons?

When everyone else was applauding the pick, I was the lone voice of reason saying what a stupid pick it was. At bama he had the benefit of running behind the most dominate o-line in college football and really didn't show much of anything. Put him in a situation when he has to work for his yards he isn't anything special. Would have been a good mid round pick.

when he was picked we were in desperate need of a RB. Assuming CSP was bound and determined to trade up and pick up a RB when he did, who would you have taken instead?

You addressed it to me, but as I said in an earlier post, it's stupid to pull against a player on your pro team because of where they went to college. And, I am an LSU grad.

Yoj stull haven't addressed his YPA or the fact he was instrumental in the franchise's first playoff road victory.
