CQQ is not tehchampion. Oh and I also support Gordon. I think he outperforms everyone's expectations this season and will easily avg 16.5+ PPG. And his explosiveness will return (albeit not at the same level that he had early in his career) but you will see him glide to the rim and finish.

If Eric Gordon plays like Clipper's Eric Gordon we're a lock for the playoffs.

I think he will too. I want to see that old bulldog personality on defense more than anything. If we can get off to a top 10 start on that side of the ball, we are going to be a force this coming season.

I think Asik and improved Davis and healthy Jrue will vastly improve our Defense

I think he must sit next to Austin's AAU coach.

quote:

With his work ethic and his drive I feel like he can be one of the best players in the league and eventually become an All Star. He works to be the best every day. The last 20 games last season is where he really showed what type of player that he can be. The last couple of games he was averaging around 15 points a game and that’s something that he’s capable of, and more, every night to go along with seven assists or so. I always tell people that this is really like his junior year in college and a lot of kids are getting a little set back with that one-and-done rule, but his drive and ability are gonna get him past that. I think he’ll be one of the best in the league.

If the defense isn't better, Monty will be canned. There is no excuse with Asik on the team this year.

Fisher at Bird Writes has a write up, using the same Nylon Calculus numbers we've discussed here, showing how much Asik can help.

Great article, too bad there aren't any good sound bites. For the tl;dr crowd, it uses lots of numbers to show how good of a fit Asik is with our specific defensive issues, and it says that Asik >>>>> Dwight as a defensive center.

Thanks for posting this. I think most of us were thinking Asik was an important piece to the puzzle; it appears the stats back that up.

My account is older than yours. How do we know you're not an alter? How do you even know who tehchampion is?

I used to be GregOdensKnees, but I forgot the password to that account. I bet that password is hiding out with $3.5M somewhere.

Not true. The Rockets were a better defensive team this year with Dwight at center and Asik out hurt than they were with Asik the year before.

Or is it?

quote:

This season Asik came off the bench to spell Dwight Howard, 2nd Team All-NBA Center this season and three time Defensive Player of the Year. Despite that when Asik was on the court opponents attempted fewer shots at the basket (27.7% when on the court vs. 32.7% off) and converted more often (57.3% on the court, 62.1% off) during the 2013-2014 Regular Season.

That doesn't mean anything. It's much easier to give maximum effort when playing for 13 minutes a game (often against other back-ups) than when playing for 35 minutes a game.

The Rockets were a better defensive team this past year with Dwight as the starter, even when Asik was hurt, than they were the year before with Asik as the starting center.

Now, I really love Asik's defense and hustle. He's a fantastic defensive player and rebounder and all-around workhorse. He's just not quite as good as Dwight on the defensive end.

I personally can't wait for the Omer vs. Dwight matchups this upcoming season.
