Terrible the grief that falls on a regular guy that does a little drugs compared to a lifelong criminal. The system is set up to protect criminals and marginalize regular people. Sorry your friend took his life , was probably a good guy. And to think the pieces of shite that keep on stealing from society.

You don't know that for a fact. To know that you would have to track it from it's origins.

So your friend had illegal drugs and had to deal with the consequences? He must have had way more than just personal use. To call someone that takes their own life due to the stress of a drug conviction a "casualty in the war on drugs" is absurd. Sorry your friend couldn't handle the weight of his own decisions

Government loves to punish tax paying citizens while letting illegal immigrants come across the boarder like gangbusters

Am I the only one that doesn't feel sympathy for a guy that had to deal with 6 fricking months of drug courts so he took his own life? Man up

well a draconian system of punishment, especially for a first offense without any victims, and the ensuing societal scarlet letter of a felony, is kind of a disproportionate price to pay (again, for possessing a natural substance that caused no direct injury to others)

It's scary how few people seem to realize how punitive the drug sentencing systems are.

I know a guy that got popped on the street with an eight ball five years back - wasn't even his, he was getting it for a friend. He came from a politically connected family in his city; an Attorney, his old man leveraged a lot of weight to make it disappear.

This guy was early thirties at the time, credentialed, and upwardly mobile. He still had to sweat out the process for a year.

Max of 5 years.. Was he a fist time offender? Time served?

You honestly consider him a casualty of the war on drugs?

Why would you post this here? Are you getting the attention you hoped for?

I'm doubting the prison time ate him up as much as the ruining of his career.

Sorry to hear that, dude.

Had the same thing happen to a friend of mine a few years back.

Him and another friend of mine were caught with some serious weight (ganja), and were looking at 7 or so years.

One is in prison now. The other killed himself with a bunch of blues.

Absolutley not.

And to act like the war on drugs fault is equally as cowardly.

if the punishments weren't so irrational and draconian, or, even better, if possession wasn't a crime, i doubt he'd be dead

but-for

Sweet, so now pointing to a flawed system and its effects on those it targets is equitable to suicide.
