Just wondering why?

Why? I've always been fascinated with reptiles. When I was a kid, I read about eastern indigos in some books from my school library. They talked about how docile and intelligent they are. They are different than most snakes. They're a bit more pet-like. Plus, they're big and badass.

I just like reptiles. If you like cute, cuddly stuff, there's nothing wrong with that.

A guy I know in Laplace, La used to breed them. Beautiful looking snake. He had the largest collection of them I've ever seen.

I might get a female or two down the road to breed to this guy. He came from a breeder in CA.

Husband wants to know how much were the permits?

Also, where did you get it? From California? (ETA: Nevermind, just saw your last post.)

(Like I'm ever going to let him get one...big snakes like that one will be tend to make big stinky messes. )

The federal interstate commerce permit is $100. You can avoid that one if you buy from within your own state. States where they're native have more restrictions. Here in AL, I had to get a state permit as well.

Eastern Indigo. Never seen one this far north. When I was at Forestry camp in Andalusia Alabama I caught one that looked just like that. Instructor made me carry it back to exactly where I caught it.

He wouldn't be this far north if I hadn't had him flown in on a jet from California today.

Professor's get really upset when you catch an endangered snake that they are trying to reintroduce into a habitat.

Any non-venomous snake that eats other venomous snakes and has a reputation for straight up beating its prey to death is ok by me.

Solon Dixon Education Center Andalusia Alabama. About 5200 acres that was donated to Auburn University. I spent a summer there in '94.

I believe that is in or near the Conecuh national forest. I know that AU has worked with the Orianne Society to reintroduce indigos there.
