Barcadia in BR. At this rate, there's no chance they'll be open in time for the start of football season.

Is another chain really needed ?

You mean the chain with a whole 2 locations prior to this one

Just stop with that nonsense. Plus, it's being run by a former BR food truck, Curbside.

I have to wonder, are there really cab companies going out of business left and right in places like NY where Uber is popular? I imagine the answer is no (b/c I haven't heard about it) in which case what are they so worried about?

BR is number 4

And is Curbside gonna run it or just sell mediocre burgers out if it? Because the burgers aren't even close to as good as the truck.

They're running it and serving their burgers out of it. Although the quality is worse at the NOLA location than from the truck, the truck had its inconsistencies as well. The best burger I ever had actually came from Barcadia NOLA, NOT from the truck (shroom and swiss with caramelized onions and praline bacon). I think it will be great to have the Curbside guys back home where they belong.

this isn't the only city to have been down this road with uber

With the same protectionist results:

Birmingham making sure it's "fair" to cab companies

And of course there are shenanigans with BHM's City Council

If Uber is apparently so bad and such an awful service shouldn't it be pretty easy for the cab companies to put them out of business?

For a company that is so bad I am not sure why the cabbies are so worries.

Nashville has the automatic rate from the airport to certain locations set up to protect the cab companies as well. It is a $25 flat rate for cabs and $40 for Uberblack.

Uber needs to get into Jefferson and St. Tammany and build up good reviews and word of mouth...

Would Uber be able to drop customers off in New Orleans if this were to happen? Would Uber be banned from making pickups in Orleans Parish but allowed to make drop offs, or would it be banned from crossing into Orleans Parish completely?

I've always thought that Uber could make attempts to operate in Jefferson or St. Tammany to help in getting support to operate in New Orleans.

frick cabbies. These are the same douchebags that wouldn't bring me back to my car on 1/9/12. Had to walk from Bourbon to Broadmoor.

Uber may just say to hell with this backwards city; the cost of doing business here given the headache is just not worth it.

This is not unique to NOLA. Uber has been met with opposition everywhere. It took Houston forever to get it. St. Louis still doesn't have it. I think thats the biggest city without uber.
