You let a regular dentist do a root canal?

Another mistake right there. I made that mistake before....never again. Only an endodontist will ever perform root canals on me in the future.

I've had to get repeat root canals on 2 different teeth because the dentist didn't do it right the first time.

i thought you got dental work in mexico?

Dude not anymore. The $30 I spent on a bum filling isn't worth the ~1.5k I'll spend on the root canal and crown.

10 fillings in Mexico for $300
Aids/hepatitis contracted getting cheap Mexican fillings because they have no infection control regulations....PRICELESS!!!!!!!

The money is the least of your worries, better get your affairs in order.

How much you wanna bet that they will either need retreatment again in the future or extract/implant.

Only Gwen Corbetts root canals last forever.

This is a joke, right? How in the actual frick did you get 10 cavities? What do your teeth look like? Does your breath reek? Do people shy away from you when you talk to them?

I'm confused. Did you really have 10 cavities?

To be fair....I have very deep roots to my teeth from what I was told.

So that's why my dentist messed them up. He was otherwise an awesome dentist who donated $$ when I went to Africa as well as gave me like 300 toothbrushes to give to the children(I was doing a hygiene presentation to the kids). He just shouldn't have done my root canals and should have referred me to an endodontist. I would still see him if he didn't move out of state.

Every patient I have met tells me they have deep/long roots.

Sounds like the endodontist threw him under the bus. It's good he moved out of town because that endo guy was not doing him any favors.

The fact of the matter is that general dentists do 90% of the root canals each year in the USA. If they stopped doing them the root canal specialists could not handle the demand and teeth would be left untreated. Lots of pain, swelling and agony for patients to deal with.

General Dentists have a duty to do root canals and they should do them well. If not, get additional training or refer.

One dirty secret that your root canal specialist didn't tell you is that some of his root canals fail too. Those that live in glass houses.........

Gotcha. Well it was actually my new general dentist that found that the old ones had to be redone. I had intense pain and it felt like a tooth was abscessed....it was one that had already had a root canal done on it. He was the one to refer me to the endodontist. He doesn't do root canals at all. Says he would rather send his patients to the endodontist instead. He's always booked so I imagine he stays busy enough not doing them.

The tooth was more infected than the dentist thought. She had to inject several rounds of anesthetic (which it turns out I am resistant to) and had to drill through quite a bit of stuff to access the places where she needed to inject it to numb things up enough.

this doesnt make any sense, fake scientist.

You cant even make up a plausible story on the OT. Anesthetics are to deal with nerves. Unless your nerves are encased in carbonite and dont connect to your brain, except wirelessly, ahh frick it.

you're a complete buffoon and a liar.

He sounds like he has a good practice and decides what he likes to spend his time doing. He probably doesn't like doing them hence the referrals to endo. I bet if he did't have the luxury of a full schedule, he would have more interest in doing them.

I like doing a variety of procedures during the day to keep things interesting. Root canals can be pretty intense so I try to do the easy ones and send the difficult cases to my endo. I bet she hates me.

That reminds me that I need to schedule a cleaning.

I hope I never need another root canal. I've just had really bad experiences with them. Had one take 4 hours.

TUba, some Mexican border towns have grown extremely wealthy because of dental tourism from Canada and the USA.

Sounds like a terrible dentist. The whole having to drill further in to numb the area makes no sense. I don't feel anything when they numb my mouth.

I went through something similar. Asked the normal questions like how much it would hurt. This is really stupid but I sorta pride myself on not bitching about how bad something hurts in situations like this so I let the guy frick with my tooth while in ridiculous pain. Finally told him I couldn't do it any longer and he gave me shots until I couldn't feel shite. Not very bright on my part.

Use an endodontist (root canal specialist) when possible. I have had 5 done. Three with regular dentists. They rarely go smoothly. Endodontists do these in their sleep.

1- The procedure will be smoother
2- Take less time (30 minutes verses over an hour)
3- Less likely to fail later. (A failed root canal is the most excruciating pain I have ever experienced) Basically fluids leak in the canal, become infected and create considerable pressure on the tooth and jaw bone.

Bottom line.. Root canals are bad things. Go with the best if you can.
