Smithsonian World War I

Just got it a couple days ago and it is a great addition to anyone's WWI library. If you want a light, but informative book on WWI- I definitely recommend.

Also, I found another book I may pull the trigger on.
A World Undone: The Story of the Great War, 1914 to 1918 by GJ Meyer. It's bigger but reviews I have read make it seem that while it's less military intensive in terms of details, which is a downer, it serves as a really good overview. Seems like it's Battle Cry of Freedom but for WWI.

So Gilbert's book and that are the ones I am gonna go browse at the store tomorrow and decide on.

DId that book end with a picture of Hitler? If so, that was a good book.

Please download Blueprint for Armegeddon by Dan Carlin.

The shite is free and he breaks it down in a manner that draws you in. From the stupid terrorist who luckily stumbles upon his dumbass target to the Russians trying to form weapons treaties before the war because they knew they'd be fricked. He covers cavalry and French uniforms but not in a lame way. He outline the shifflinder (spelling) plan and the poor bastard tasked with putting it in motion. All in a completely compelling manner.

I'd like to hear your thoughts if you give the first episode a listen.

This is exactly what you need for your trip. This cat tells the story in an entertaining way. He lines up all of the prewar empires/countries and links them by alliances.

It's free!
