that show makes you dumber. Seriously you have to drop a couple IQ points after sitting and watching that show.
I agree but I feel that people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones (me not you)
if you watch tv, you watch something that can be described as such.
in fact, that's how they used to describe tv period.

ESPN is tiresome
Same shtick over and over again -- creating storylines with myopia and prisoner-of-the-moment "takes" because they have no journalistic integrity anymore.
Peyton Manning has a fantastic regular season and ESPN asks if he's the greatest ever. Broncos then get destroyed in the Super Bowl and ESPN asks if he's washed up. The Heat lose to the Mavs in the Finals - will LeBron ever win one? The Heat beat the Thunder the next year in the Finals - is LeBron the greatest player ever?
I guarantee you, if the Broncos, Patriots, Packers or Seawhawks lose their first game of the season, the next day's discussion will be all about how that team is "done."

You're not saying he's a liar, you're just saying that you don't believe what he's saying at all. And let's not forget the original statement as to why he likes ESPN and what he likes to watch:
quote:
30 for 30 series is superb overall and no other sports network has anything that's comparable. OTL is good sometimes. A lot of their reporters blow smoke most the time but there are a few that are very good and always informative like John Clayton and Adam Shefter.
..to which you literally did say this about it:
quote:
I'm calling bullshite here
quote:
I just don't believe you
quote:
I don't believe you at all
quote:
No one tunes in for schefter...
quote:
schefter and clayton??? disregarding that lie, no one tunes in for these guys and he didn't tell me why he likes them.
quote:
I don't believe gold rush particularly.
Nice work, Captain Semantics...I guess you technically didn't literally use the word "liar."

So maybe you should've titled your thread "Why do you like ESPN's gimmicky talk shows" since I now know this to be your entire premise. I like ESPN because of many things besides those shows, which comprises a minority of their programming time. But apparently you misworded your true intended question.
And why are you so fixated on the word "like" just because I said I watch the show occasionally? You do know that there is a lot of grey area between like and dislike.
Those shows can be tedious and gimmicky but they don't bother me enough to go around preaching how much I hate them. When they are discussing a topic I'm particularly interested in, when their focus coincides with my interests, I will tune in to get their take. I generally like to take in all the information I can when a topic interests me. It doesn't start and stop with ESPN. I'll read a ton of articles online from obscure writers that I would not normally read. It's not about any one show, it's the subject matter.
Otherwise I don't watch those shows. I don't hate them. I don't like them. It's just a medium to receive opinions. I'm closer to indifference most of the time, unless they're speaking about something I want to hear discussed.

Name another network that takes sports journalism as seriously as they do

They take marketing way more seriously than journalism.

I will take a guess on some of your question, Mr. Mulder, although i had no idea sportcenter changed to a debate format.
The debate shows appeal to the masses. These type of of people are called the masses because they make up a large majority. A large majority of self proclaimed sports fans are not hardcore. I am not saying they are necessarily dumb. Rather, they are just not interested enough to pay close enough attention to tell you the differences between the 4-3 and the 3-4. They cant tell you what used to be an illegal defense in the NBA.
However, they want to know enough to discuss sports topics at the water cooler. Because they don't pay enough attention to formulate their own opinion on the sports topics of the day, they are fed their opinion by these shows, and gladly let the programming do the work for them.
The reason you dont see all that many ESPN fans here is that people that go far enough to post on message boards may also not be the ones that necessarily like their opinion fed to them.
Thats my guess after thinking about your topic for a couple minutes.

Best show on ESPN by far. Only show where I will listen to the podcasts on long drives or something

I like ESPN, but I've never watched an episode of Skip's show (first take or whatever it is).
I watch sports center to get updated on what's new, games and 30 for 30 when I have time. I honestly don't see whats wrong with those. Maybe it's just cool to hate ESPN nowadays.

what's worse is, again like wrestling, you know it's fricking fake anyway. Skip doesn't really think that, he's trying to stir up people (how that is effective I don't know) or his opinion is "the complete opposite of the other guy"
I've never understood how people don't get this. No one would watch if it was an entire show of everyone having the same opinion. There needs to be controversy and wait for it... Drama.
People are so stupid.

The same sort of people who watch the housewives of this or that and the kardasians etc watch espin.
Most of pop culture bores me because I am getting old and it is always geared to the under 25 crowd

But having a different opinion about something inane isn't controversial
