Yes, and it's generally one of the lower turnout SEC games for LSU. The games in Arkansas are in the smallest SEC venue and majority Arkansas fans. The LSU games are often 10,000 seats under capacity. That would not have been the case if the game was played on Saturday rather than Friday.

The last time LSU visited Arkansas, it was in Fayetteville with over 71,000 in attendence, which is a sell out. The last 3 visits to Little Rock were all sell outs. So, where does this 10,000 empty seat statement come from?

And...the games had a majority of Arkansas fans? Well, duh. They are after all Arkansas home games.

So which one of you guys with tickets that can't go because it's thanksgiving, want to sell me your face value tickets?

I'll be there. Though face value is $120 which stings a little. But since there's only one "good" game in Baton Rouge this year it's the price I have to pay to see the Tigers play a decent game.

Oh my naive friend, unless LSU gets forced, err decides to start playing it on Thursday night as well, I bet it just replaces Arky at 130.

Part of the agreement to play A&M on thanksgiving was that in return we got them on Saturday night

Oh I think they are Thursday night to stay. ESPN needs something big to compete with the NFL, and its easier to market a contest you know will be annual that night. Plus, it gives the A&M Thursday night tradition legitimacy if it holds for the road contest as well.

LSU/A&M annually will do better ratings wise than the alternative for that night, which most years was the Egg Bowl.

I think people are overrating thanksgiving with "extended" family.... Me my brothers, uncles, dad would much rather be at a football game then sitting in front of a tv together.

War Memorial has less than 60,000 seats.

I was at that game in Fayetteville and there were entire empty sections. Even if the game did "sell-out" there were easily 5,000-8,000 empty seats.

How is it any different than an early Friday afternoon game in Little Rock? You had to be away from home on Thanksgiving and travel to get to the game for Friday.

That was lousy too and as much as the SEC and LSU wanted LSU-Ark to be a rivalry, i think always playing it Thanksgiving weekend hurt the series because FEWER (not none) fans from both schools would go to the away game hurt that. It is not the same as and in state rivalry like the other big SEC games. I think this will hurt the effort to turn this into a big rivalry as well. I know a lot of people that travel over Thanksgiving because the kids are out of school. I'm sure a good number of LSU fans will go this year especially with the novelty of playing on Thanksgiving, but i don't think it will be as good of a crowd because of the holiday.

And you can count on one had the number of times LSU actually had over 90,000 in the house last season.

All the school can do is sell the seat. If someone doesn't show, that's on them.

Plus, the 2012 Arkansas season was a total throw away year. I wouldn't use anything that happened that year as an indicator of anything.

FWIW, Arkansas has no scheduled visits to Little Rock this year. My guess is those days are done.

That SHOULD have been the agreement but it isn't. They said LSU doesn't have to play Thursday night in BR, but there is not a guarantee for a Saturday night game.

Well good for you, guess what, you are lucky, not everyone's family is like that, some people travel not just to visit family, but on vacation, an Aggie friend of mine is going to Disney World for Thanksgiving week since his kids are off all week.

At the moment, LSU has said they will not play on Thursday night, that could change, but probably not in 2015. The ratings difference up against the NFL will be negligible.

too the OP's original point, they may sell all the tickets but there is a good chance for a high number of no shows (as I understand there often was for LSU-Ark, I wouldn't know because i never went since it was a holiday weekend) unless you have a situation like 2011 when LSU-Arky were ranked 1 and 3.

Of course there isn't a guarantee, but CBS will always pick up the Iron Bowl for their 2:30 slot. Which means LSU/A&M in BR will be picked up by ESPN and it will be at night.

Some of you people need to use common sense when talking about this issue

They spend their entire school year playing football, they probably appreciate Thanksgiving with their extended family. Especially the out of towners. JMO. Flame away.

They do not celebrate with family. The eat tg dinner as a team.

Some parents may show, but no extended family does, usually.

I'm willing to bet TAMU does something for fans, both sides, that want to spend Thanksgiving on their campus. Or maybe that's a pipe dream. However, I would bet TAMU goes far and above the Hogs for visitors. ETA: it may be early, but I'm guessing turn out at least this year will be at least average, not low. I put in for 6 away game tickets, only 2 filled (and I'm pretty good on points). However, TAMU is notoriously stingy about visitor tix while bragging about capacity.

Last point first: I understand that A&M will be having a larger visitor's allotment from here on out, thanks to the expansion of Kyle Field. Six thousand was all that A&M could manage the last two years since the stadium was sold out as season tickets with the smaller visitors section (under 4000) required for Big XII teams.

As far as doing something to accommodate fans, Thanksgiving games in College Station are old hat, so all the restaurants will be fully staffed and open, and a few will probably have special Thanksgiving deals. There is usually an official tailgate for the visiting fans somewhere on campus (I would suggest you check with LSU's alumni association), and there will be no shortage of tailgating opportunities.

I agree that you'll see fewer LSU fans coming from Louisiana, but with more of a Texas-based contingent, that also means that they'll probably have more connections to hook up with Aggie tailgaters.

To be fair, I wouldn't go to an LSU home game with A & M on Thanksgiving night. Not a night for me to go to a football game. Its a day/night for family and friends to sit in front of the tube and watch football. I am a great fan, but just not the day.

Except CBS has two time slots Thanksgiving weekend. 1:30 Friday, 2:30 Saturday. As it stands, the agreement is next season LSU-A&M will not be Thursday night.

Currently, the two best SEC match ups available for the final weekend are LSU-A&M, and the Iron Bowl. I don't think CBS is willing to give up one of those games every year.
